Notes: The Colonial ASP is a starfighter class bomber. It has been in the Colonial service for two hundred years in various models. Fleet command is slowly phasing these versatile bombers out. Currently the Asp is the only tandem pilot starfighter in active service. The Bombardier sits directly behind the pilot and is responsible for payload drop. If the pilot becomes incapacitated, the Bombardier has the capability to fly the craft in a limited capacity. The bombardiers sensors are primarily terrain following for planetary drops, but can be calibrated for spacial drops. The pilot is the mission commander until the ASP is over its target, at which time the Bombardier assumes command until payload delivery is complete.
The pilot is responsible to deliver the Asp to the target area and return it to the launch point. The pilot is also responsible for fighter engagement when necessary, but tries to avoid it when possible because of the lower powered laser generators, which were installed due to weight constraints. Those weight constraints also limited power core capacity to the engines, causing the Asp to run a maximum speed equal to 2/3 of the standard vipers speed at full Turbo.
The dual set of wings is primarily for stabilization in atmospheric conditions, when the ASP is reduced to bombing run speeds.
