XerØ #5

XerØ "The Assassain":  I'll state right off the top that I think there was a breakdown in writer-artist communication on this issue.  Several scenes left me shaking my head in puzzlement becuase I couldn't track who was doing what and why he was there and huh?  Wiat, I just figured one of them out, Trent was hallucinating.  But, unless he's  not being literal, I'm still confused to the reference to Øne on the last two pages when he's nowhere to be seen.  And besides the two Trent scenes, the bottom of p20 confused the heck out of me...if only because I see no reason why the real Kali would say what she did.  Hrm.

Anyway, time to back up and look at the story.  A young girl was kidnapped some years back and turned into an assassain by an arms dealer.  XerØ has been sent to retrieve her, arriving just as she's trying to escape.  She tries to kill him, but as good as she is, she's just a kid.  She's not a real threat, though, the guy she escaped from is, since he's been leaked XerØ's file, and knows all his weak spots.  Meanwhile, in what may or may not be a related plot, Rick the CIA guy from #1 shows up at Decker's house, wanting revenge on XerØ, but get's bamboozeled (and this reader get's mildly confused) by a holographic projection defence sytem.  All this seems to suggest (to me, anyway) that Øne is taking a more proactive stance on eliminating his rival...if he's been shadowing XerØ for a while, he may have saved Rick and made it look like a lucky break.  And he could easily have fed the arms dealer information on XerØ, particularly how to mess with his Deadeye, since we already know Øne knows how it works.

Of course, all this skullduggery pales in comparison with the large pile of waste matter that's about to hit the fan thanks Sabrina leaving Trent.   Sabrina leaves Trent.  Trent drinks himself into a stupor, starts following Sabrina and being careless.  Sheriff Lake notices Trent stalking his daughter while keeping an eye out for Trane.  Lake follows Trent back to DriveTrane.

Oops.  Lake is gonna know this ain't just an elaborate home gym.

A lot of story packed into one issue, but the art got a little too tricky a few times too often for my tastes.  i think I've figured out most of the scenes now, but the word/picture mesh could have been better without any dumbing down.

BTW, if the second Decker is a hologram, how can he hold a gun?   Or is he a Star Trek hologram?
