XerØ #3

XerØ "The Beast":  Speaking of the anti-Christ...No, not Priest, although it iwas somewhat evil of him to start this story near the end but not AT the end.

This issue could just as well have been titled "Why?" because it's that word which motivates most of the characters, especially XerØ himself.  He's been ordered to kill an 11-year old kid, and this is the straw that breaks the camel's conscience.  He can't just kill a kid, he needs to know why the kid deserves to die.  This leads to another confrontation with Øne, who I think provoked a fight just because he wanted to test himself against XerØ again, not because he was ordered to.  But Øne did provide XerØ with his precious "because", even while mocking the man's need to know.  the kid, aside from possible being the anti-Christ, was the master copy of a cloning operation.  Kill the kid and the monsignor, end the clone farm.  And if the kid *was* the anti-Christ, so much the better.

Of course, there's a WHOLE LOT of "meanwhile, back at the ranch".  A new member is added to the supporting cast, and she's tied into almost everyone else.  her name is Sabrina.  She's a cop, the daughter of the sheriff, she warms Trent's bed but loves the Reverend.  Boy is she up to her eyeballs in subplot.  She's also playing a very dangerous game, hanging around with Trent at all, given how much of a turbo-powered bastard he is at this time in his life.

In the end, some rather interesting things happen.   Trane goes to Darius (the Rev) with questions about the whole anti-Christ angle.   he doesn't really get the answer, but I get the feeling Trane wasn't looking for one.  Or at least, no that answer in particular.  That Trane's walking out of a church which is neither Darius's nor the clone farm's in the last panel has me wondering if Trane's started to look into another source of answers, with Darius's help?  And, the other interesting thing, Sabrina decides to cut loose from Trent after thinking of Darius, even pulls a gun on him and tells him to get out.  But he doesn't.  And her resolve crumbles.  And they kiss, which is probably the most chilling thing all issue.  Hard Drive over in Young Heroes in Love ain't got nothin'  on Trent when it comes to manipulating people.  Shudder
