XerØ #2

XerØ "The Rookie":  Last issue, the "narration from years in the future" thing was only a little intrusive.  Okay, so we know he tragically and his brother can shoulder some of the blame, we don't know when the hammer will fall.   But this issue we get statements which definitley close off certain character development paths (he'll never show a human side to his teammates, he'll die alone and numourned and he's not even an aardvark, etc.), and that I find a little irritating.   I think his little brother should stom fiving away so many spoilers in the narration, eh?

That aside, the issue does have a nice parallel structure, between the rookie hoopster in the first few pages and the supposedly rookie closer in the rest of th book.  And while I knew that Øne HAD to appear after he he kept getting mentioned by Bobby Mo (the rookie closer), I didn't expect him to be in disguise as Mo.  Guess I wasn't looking hard enough.

XerØ sleepwalks through most of the issue, devoting his thoughts to the questin of whether he should have done something to save the waitress last issue, and whether he should be doing something with his basketball celebrity to be a more psoitive role model, those moral type questions.  Deespite that, he doesn't miss a beat, having been trained too well to let lack of concentration get in his way.   But eventually the questions will have to get loud enough to get in his way, yes?
