Coltrane "Trane" Walker and his younger brother, Trent were born in Brooklyn's Red Hook projects. Like many young black men, they figured that the military was the quickest way out of the projects. An offer was put before the two and, with eyes clouded by dreams of 007, women, and money, they signed on the dotted line.
Trane went into "wetworks" while Trent, being a techno-freak, landed a job in a lab. He had a Ylae degree that he never had to study for...and a lot of money.
Decker and One strong-armed Trent into a job for an ultra-secret govenrment agency, headed by Decker. Trane was signed on because of his brother. Trane was trained as a Closer. A closer is a spook whose job it is to close cases that have been botched other agents for other orginizations. He was 67. No one but Decker knows how many closers there are.
Trane got sent on a mission during the Gulf War in the early 1990's. He followed his mission parameters to the "T"...and got himself killed.
Meanwhile, Trent was set up in his lab, designing "toys" for the government. He took his brother's body and enhanced it with alien technology -- creating a cyborg. The problem was that Trane's body rejected the new technology so they pumped him full with an experimental X-enzyme which he needs to recharge every 24 hours or he dies.
As a side effect of the X-enzyme, Trane can speed up his molecules as well as those of any object he touches. This abilities allows Trane to walk through walls and walk on water.
Trane quickly grew through the ranks of the Closers and became 12. At this point Decker and One, his trainer designed a prosthetic face. As a sick joke the prosthetic face was white. This meant that when 12 was on a mission, he was a white man. One was the best. 12 was better. They gave him the name they gave him the name, Xero.
Xer0 has no conscience. He does his job. In--bang--out. Xer0 asks no questions save fore one: Why?
That question will be the death of Xero.
