Our Family's Story
Steven James Hovey was born in 1950 in Washington, DC -- the 3rd child of six children born to
Reid Merlin Hovey and Fern Maxine (Smith) Hovey. His older brother and sister are Glen and
Elaine. His younger brothers and sister are Roger, Ranae, and David. Steven grew up and
attended schools in McLean, Virginia. When his father retired from working for the federal
government, the family moved to Utah, the original roots for both Reid and Maxine Hovey.
Steven served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Montana and Idaho. On his return, he continued
his studies at BYU in Provo, Utah. While there, he met Judy Carol Larsen.
Judy was born in 1952, the youngest child of three children born to Rollo R. Larsen and Melba O.
(Dorius) Larsen. Judy's older sister and brother are Beverly and David. David passed away at
the age of 17 in 1964. Although Judy's parents were Utah natives, they lived in Loyalton, California all their married life. This is where Judy and her brother and sister grew up. Loyalton is in the Sierra mountains in northern California, 45 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada.
In August of 1972, Steven and Judy were married in Salt Lake City, Utah.
They moved to southern California, where they lived for the next twenty two years. Well-known
by their California license plate "7 HOVEYS", Steven and Judy have been blessed with five lovely
daughters:
Christine is married to Jeffrey Beaulieu and they have two sons,
Taylor Christian Beaulieu and Jacob Austin Beaulieu, and a daughter, Ashley Nicole Beaulieu. They live in Riverside, California.
Virginia is married to Joel Oleson and they have three sons, Scott James Oleson, Jared Grafton Oleson and Dean Kyle Oleson. They live in Duvall, WA and Joel works as a SharePoint "tech evangelist".
Janell is married to Brandon Mc Inroe. They live in the Houston, TX area. They have three sons, Cody Robert McInroe, Benjamin Adam "Benny" McInroe and Levi Duran McInroe.
Angela is married to Robert Zook are now living in Camarillo, California where Angela is working as a High School Counselor. They are expecting the birth of their first son in early April 2011.
Michelle was married September 1, 2007 to Reise Edmond House, Jr. and they are living in Woodbridge, VA.
With over 30 years experience in Information Technology, Steven completed his career as Information Technology Specialist for the Transportation Security Administration, part of the new Department of Homeland Security. Before retiring in 2015, Steven worked in Arlington, helping the agency maintain a state-of-the-art web-based training and Learning Management System for its 65,000+ employees. Steven and Judy now live in Fuquay-Varina, NC enjoying retirement.
The Hoveys have many interests.
Judy enjoys arts and crafts such as statuary, plasterware, cross-stitch and other types of stitchery. She also enjoys birdwatching, rock hounding, gardening and the
outdoors, in general.
Steve enjoys the outdoors, too. He also enjoys genealogy and family
history research. He also enjoys reading, listening to music, swimming, playing the guitar and singing.
Steve also
is active in amateur radio (Call sign N6XNU, Technician Plus Class). Judy, Christine and Virginia
are also amateur radio operators. Their call signs are: Judy -- KC6MNV, Christine -- KC6MNW,
and Virginia -- KC6MNX. They are all Novice Class.
