Azalea


This locality got it's name from the abundance of Azalea's in the area. Starveout, Booth, and Azalea have all been post offices in the same general vicinity in the upper Cow Creek Valley.

Starveout post office was established February 18, 1888. The name was changed to Booth on August 24, 1907, then, again changed to Azalea on May 6, 1914.




Anlauf


Anlauf, established May 1, 1901, was named after a pioneer family in the area. It is North of Drain, on the Siskiyou line of the Southern Pacific Company.

Oakland

The Oakland post office was established February 21, 1852. It was originally located about 3 miles north of the present site, and was moved (1872) when the railroad was built, to be closer to the railroad.

It is the Oldest Historical District in the state.

At one time Oakland was the "Turkey Capital of the World".

Sutherlin

Sutherlin is situated about 12 miles north of Roseburg, and 3 miles south of Oakland, along I-5. It was named after Fendel Sutherlin, who moved into the valley in 1851, and developed the area.
