• the Metros History

Unlike the Backstreet Boys the Metros were not put together by a producer who had a great vision. The Metros started kinda by accident. Once apon a Josh Taylor sang and David(Fred) Mitchell played drums in a band called Edipus Rex. After playing many local shows and recieving love(and quite a bit of apathy)from the pensacola scene they decided they were unfulfilled and to start a new project. Luckly at one of Edipus Rex's many shows Josh meet a man named John Sission. The first thing John said to Josh was, "Your band sucks." With such respect of his musicianship Josh liked John right away and got his number in the event he would ever need a bass player. About 6 months later out of the blue Josh gave Josh a call and set up a pratice. The pratice went better than anyone expected and supplied the boys soon to be known as the Metros(named after Johns glorified go-kart which was a Geo Metro) with 4 of the songs they still play today. Soon after that first pratice and after recruiting 2 horn players from local favorites Forty til' Five and Soma (Mike and Luke) the Metros were well on their way to honing theyre sound. During all this the decision was made by Josh that he didn't want to to sing and play guitar for a band anymore and to concentrate on trumpet, John called an old friend from his former band, the Insults, to fill in the vacancy on the Mic. Dale Halsted joined the Metros reluctantly because of his distain of Ska but was soon convinced it didn't suck and that it is fun to play. His vocal stylings and lyrics ranging from silliness to dead serious helped add a new demention to the bands sound. The band also recruited Josh V. to play guitar. 3 Months after it's inception the Metros played their first show with Pain to a packed out Sluggos crowd. The response to their mix of ska, punk, and all kinds of other crap was incredible so the Metros decided they were doing something right and embarked on a short florida tour. Shortly after the tour and the recording of their CD (The Babysitters Dead)Josh V. decided the Metros had "too many rules," and that he "just wanted to rock," and left the band. Luke's departure soon after was less violent and he still plays with the boys every now and then. the Metros current guitar player is Ben Allen but there were 3 between Josh and him so who knows who it is when this is read. With no trombone the Metros called one of Josh and Freds former bandmates from Edipus Rex named T.J. to fill the gap and recruited another sax player named Daniel into the Mix as well. After 6 months uncountable shows and 2 tours the Metros have seen more line-up changes then most bands in existence but stand stronger than ever and ready to rock. The Metros a preparing to record a split cd with their favorite other band in the whole world, Hadji and the Turbans, for Permenant Reckerds.
