The Oakland Concert

April 17, 1999 in the Oakland Coliseum, California, USA

The Beginning

My friend bought us the tickets at the last minute on-line...I just knew that I had to be there no matter what.

We got to the coliseum one hour early and we did meet other Bocelli fans that I had met previously on-line. It was great talking with them, since I was a fairly new fan and these guys told me alot I did not know about Andrea including sharing pictures from other concerts they had been to. Oh and make note that these guys were die-hard Bocelli fans. They did not fool around, they had $120 buck seats on up !!

During Intermission

So, we found our seats and we had to laugh because we got the nose-bleed section! Hey, all seats were sold out except for the $500 dollar seats !! And to boot, I had a SIDE seat!! What a bummer..but it was the only section availiable. We did not stay there too long in that seat !!

We are no FOOLS !!! During intermission we found a closer SEAT !!! There had to be some people who hadn't made the concert for some reason or another. We were still to the side, but alot closer, and with my telephoto lens...hummmmm baby!!! (don't use a flash if you go to these concerts...just fast film -400 ASA- and a good 35 mil camera. The ushers get upset with flashes).

When the Angel sang !

As soon as he got on stage and opened his mouth...I was in awe!! WOW what a voice, what a presence. Yeah, he did not talk to the audience. When he sang he was motionless but his VOICE...his VOICE..OH MY GOD !!!

Anna Marie sang beautifully with Andrea. IT made me CRY !!! I sensed the Oakland/San Fran crowd was waiting for him to sing his hits....but I was in heaven hearing his wonderful arias!! He sang flawlessly!! He is at his best when he sings his arias....BELIEVE ME !! Oh yes, the crowd did go absolutely wild as he sang "Con Te Patrio" and "Sogno" at the end of the concert.

They did have three big screens in different parts of the stadium so you can see him close up. The Coliseum, of course, was packed with people. It filled up fast.

He is so gracious...so very gracious as he thanked the San Diego orchestra during the end of the concert. (I had to take this picture...the only rare time I could see his full face !!

We all hated for him to go !!! We screamed and shouted for him not to leave even after the three encores...I especially shouted "Ti amo, ti adoro!!! SIGH...so sad to see him go.

Good Bye Maestro Bocelli, I hope I see you again.
