    Elaine Rulmer sent me an email on Jan 3, 1998, in which she identifies her ancestor, James Larkins b. 1749 Frederick Co., Maryland, m. 1793 Lancaster PA to Cathiline Keiger Gerlinger, and d. 1828 in Harrison Co., Ohio. She says that when this James applied for his pension, three people signed affadavits as knowing him, his age, and being in war with him, and all three came from Sommerset Co., Pennsylvania. Based on this, she believes that her James Larkins is the James Larkins of Turkeyfoot Twp. -- and thus the father of William E. Larkins. This theory, however, does have a few problems. First is William E. Larkins was b. in Tennessee, but her James Larkins was not known to have lived in Tennessee. Also, her James would have been 45 years old when William E. was born, which is a little on the older side. Currently there is nothing substantial to either confirm or refute this theory, so it does remain a good lead.
    More details from Elaine: Her James Larkins had: 1. James b. 1784, 2. John b. 1794, 3. Seth b. 1794, 4. Thomas Calvin b. 1799 (her ancestor), 5. Elizabeth/Betsy b. 1806 (and she believes perhaps William E.). Her James said he was 62 in 1820 while applying for a pension (ie b.1758) & his wife was 60. At that time, he had three children at home, a son 21 (b.1799), son 18 (b.1802), and daughter 14 (b.1806). He applied for the pension while living in Cadiz, Harrison Co., OH, and explained his life & times in OH. Signers of his affadavits were Felix Duffel, Thomas Little, and Capt. William Paul, all living in Sommerset Co. Elaine has not yet found his will, but has found a reference saying that the son Seth was the executor.
