Croissant Monument in Hollowayville, IL Cemetery


The tall Croissant Monument has German inscriptions on all four sides. They translate as follows:

Northwest Face:
"Dedicated in honor and memory to his fellow leaders of this congregation and fellow builders of this church."
By: William Croissant
Born: November 4, 1819
Died: May 10, 1898

Northeast Face:
"This is a rock that shall stand firm till Heaven and earth have passed away."
By: Phillip Croissant

Southeast Face:
"Gather up yourselves treasures for eternity, which neither moth or rust shall eat."
By: Anna Maria Croissant and John Croissant

Southwest Face:
"This stone has been chosen, a treasure that no one will steal from me."
