The
purpose of this page is to show my Fiero to those who find the 1987 model year
unique,
and are looking to buy this very sweet collectable.
Please be patient as the page loads, I wanted to show good images.
As
you can see the nose on the 1987 is different from the 1984-86 models
and looks even more like a Corvette from the same time period.
This was just
one reason why the 1988 year of Fiero was the last. Chevrolet wanted a version
for their lineup and Pontiac turned them down, so Chevy got into a hissy fit
and
pleaded with GM to end the production of the P-car. The V6 version of the Fiero
was actually quicker in the quarter-mile than a 1988 Vette and cost a 1/3 less.
And that white line you see on the lower driver side is not a scratch, it's
just a reflection
off the white stripe in the parking lot where I took these images. Shows you
just
how shiny the paint is though, doesn't it? And I didn't even wax it.
No
trunk mounted luggage rack, so it gives the car a smooth clean look.
The rear bumper fascia also was refreshened for 1987.
The
colour is Medium Metallic Red (9077) and gets real nice when in the shade,
almost a deep Garnet Red. This colour was offered only for 1987 and 1988.
This car has been repainted professionally only once, back in 1999.
The
interior is the standard gray cloth and dark gray carpet set.
The driver's seat is original and just starting to show wear on the bottom cushion.
Not bad for a Canadian car with over 200,000km on her. I've always liked the
formula one style
steering wheel with the horn buttons looking like shifter paddles.
The
interior shows very minimal wear, due to the the fact this car
is not equipped with a sunroof. The factory AM/FM Cassette radio
is still operational, and this car has factory A/C. And yes it is an
automatic TH-135 3-spd with overdrive lockup tranny.
It cruises wonderfully at 1800rpm at 100kph and returns 40mpg.
This
is the original passenger door glass mounted decal for the 1988
Winter Olympic Games in Calgary. It was placed on late model 1987
and all 1988 Fieros sold in Canada, only. And is now very rare to find.
This
is the front trunk area. Note the factory optional A/C and power brakes.
And the factory spare appears to have never been used.
A little cluttered, but very original and rust free.
Yup
it's a four-banger! The "iron duke" 2.5 litre "Tech 4".
For 1987, Pontiac
upgraded this engine with a new "tuned-port" head and roller rockers.
This increased
air flow into the cylinders via the TBI and reduced valve noise. Also this is
the first year
for a distributless ignition, just 2 coil packs and 4 spark plugs. This engine
has great
compression on all cylinders, and has excellent oil pressure, which means many
more
years of life on the engine and the tranny shifts smoothly and precisely, as
if new.
And
this is the rear trunk area, just enough space for a set of golf clubs and a
cooler.
Or a full-sized spare and a cooler.
The
engine vent grilles have been painted to match the body colour,
whereas they were originally satin black to match the trim. This gives
the rear of the car a way cleaner look and a more European "Ferrari"
look.
The alloy wheels are the factory original " High Tech" 14-inch, and shows some clear-coat wear.
The floorpans are pretty clean and rust free, as this car was wintered in Florida.
Yes
the headlights do function properly, Pontiac upgraded
the motors from the previous 1984-86 model years.
I've blanked out my license plate to avoid parts thieves
over the Internet, as the 1987-88 body style is very sought after
So
there you have it, my 1987 Pontiac Fiero 2M4.
I'm asking $3000.00 cdn and the car has a current passed
e-test and was just certified August 28th, 2005. The car isn't mint
but does present itself very, very nicely and if you know Fiero's this one
won't disappoint you or leave you stranded, the mileage has proven that.
