Fiero 2M4 Sports Coupe
P-Car
This
is my 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 Sports Coupe page. Hopefully this simple
page will show off my car at its best to fans of this car. A unique
piece of American automotive history, that already has become a future
collectable and will only rise in value, so jump in while they're still
going for a song. These cars are very affordable, cheap to maintain
and insure. They get fantastic fuel mileage (I average 26mpg in the
city, 40 on the highway) while at the same time will handle the road
like a sports car costing thousands more. I guess what I'm trying to
say is you get one hell of a bang for your buck!
The
body is composite plastic panels, much like a Saturn or the first generation
GM Lumina and Transport minivans, and is in excellent damage free condition
including the sail panels and rear tail lights. A recently applied "wet
look" gloss black paint finish that is very nice indeed, on a very
clean damage free steel under body
All
body panels are straight and damage free, all trim and accessories are
intact (including the mint sail panels, removable tinted glass sunroof,
rear luggage rack),and
in excellent shape. The factory optional 14-inch Pontiac "High
Tech" alloy rims, which could use a new coat of clear applied,
but are straight and don't have that common over the week leak, and
from 10 feet back look great.
Update May 12, 2002.
I have just added a very nice set of 15-inch Diamond
Spoke alloys from an '86 Fiero GT that have the gray center with polished
lip, they also have excellent tires 205's on the front and 215's on
the rear, just like the way the GT's came originally. I think they add
to the look of this black Fiero, and improve the handling like no tomorrow.

The
engine is the stock 2.5L "Tech 4" 4-cylinder "Iron Duke"
and is in very good running condition, even though it shows 140,000mi
(225K in Canada) on the odometer, I'm sure it's been rebuilt at some
point as the compression is excellent and starts right up after sitting
for a couple of weeks and doesn't stumble or surge. This engine is tight
with no excessive valve train or bottom end clatter, and requires no
repairs, it doesn't burn or leak any fluids what so ever. The engine
is also completely stock and original with a single Rochester TBI carb
and a factory 1986 exhaust system, with the factory catalytic convertor
still in very good condition. This engine set up is one of the most
common 4-cylinder engine and drive-lines, and is used with many other
GM vehicles, so to maintain it is a breeze and very easy on your pocket
book.
The
transmission is the optional Isuzu 5-speed standard shift, and again
is in excellent running order, with smooth positive shifts and no clutch
slippage.
The
braking system on this car consists of power assist 4-wheel disc, and
is in excellent condition requiring nothing at this time, including
the parking brake. The manual rack and pinion steering is tight with
no excessive play. From the descriptions of the mechanical components
this car is in good to excellent driving condition.
The
interior is in very good, clean original condition with no wear to the
mint condition driver's and passenger seats, and are in gray cloth.
The dash is dark gray with after market wood appliqués and also
is original with no cracks or warping. I have added a more usable dash
mounted glove box from an 1986 Fiero GT and it matches the existing
interior perfectly. The center console also is in great condition with
wood appliqué. There is a working factory original Delco AM FM
cassette stereo with 2 factory speakers upfront and 2 factory speakers
in the rear side panels, and sounds fantastic. All controls and accessory
switches work and there is nothing missing or broken in this interior.
Some of the options that the interior also features are intermittent
wipers, tilt-steering with paddle style horn buttons, tinted glass and
factory removable glass sunroof, with wind deflector.
This
is the front trunk area with spare tire (never used), and the windshield
washer bottle and power brake booster. The rad is in fine shape as are
the headlamp assemblies including the motors. I have just replaced the
heater core, so it'll keep ya warm and toasty on those late night cruises.
This
is the under body looking from the front of the car. The darker black
areas are just some touch ups to parts and areas that I felt needed
some sort of covering from the elements, and is by no means covering
up rusted or damaged floor areas or the like. As you can see it's pretty
clean for a car with 225K on the odometer.
This
is the rear of the under body, again sorry for the paint touch ups but
I didn't want any unprotected metal to be exposed to our lovely Canadian
climate.
The car is currently located in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
Over
all not bad shape for a car 20 years old that has been a regular all
season very reliable driver for all those years. Yes all the early recall
and GM upgrades have been done, so please don't have any concerns about
those 1980's rumors about these cars bursting into flames, or taking
flight, as they were only rumors put out by GM's other sports car division
(Chevrolet Corvette) to stop producing what at that time was a 2-seater
mid-engined sports car that with the V6 could out run a Vette.
