Clay stormed into the back door of the arena, walking blindly through the halls.

Where's my dressing room? I need to find my dressing room.

He turned a corner without looking up, and ran smack into another person, causing both of them to tumble onto the cold concrete floor.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry. Are you alright sir?"

Clay lifted his throbbing head and looked into the dark eyes of a girl around his age. Her long brown hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, and she looked tired and overworked.

"I'm okay." He croaked, helping her up. "I - I wasn't looking where I was going. It was completely my fault."

Now just leave me alone.

She smiled at him reassuringly. "That's okay."

Clearing his throat, he noticed she had a name tag on. "Kristin... Do you work here?"

"Yeah, I do. I basically wait on the celebrities who perform here hand and foot." She laughed. "Not too fun, but at least it pays the bills."

He rolled his eyes inconspiciously.

I'd trade jobs with you in a second, believe me.

"So where are you on your way to right now?"

She sighed. "I have to go find this singer... Ray or Trey or something."

"That would be me," he announced, extending his hand. "Clay Aiken, pleased to meet you."

Kristin's hand flew to her mouth. "OH - I'm so sorry Clay - uh - Mr. Aiken."

"No, no, don't be sorry - you wouldn't believe how nice it is to meet someone who doesn't know who I am."

Too bad the planet isn't full of people like you.

Visibly relaxing, she reached out and grasped his pale hand in hers. "Well, it's nice to meet you Mr. Aiken."

"Clay."

"Clay." She repeated, then beckoned him to follow her down the hallway. "This is your dressing room."

He let out a sigh of relief. "Thank God. I thought I'd never find it!"

"This arena is pretty confusing backstage," Kristin explained. "Now, do you need anything? What would you like for lunch? There are some really nice upscale restaraunts that we can order from around here. Just tell me what you're in the mood for."

Oh no.

Clay's eyes widened and his breathing quickened. "Uh..."

"Are you alright? Clay?"

He crumpled to the ground, his body sliding smoothly down against the spotless wall. "Please Kristin, just go."

Terrified, she began to remove her walkie talkie from her belt.

"No!" he cried. "Don't call anyone. I'm okay."

"Clay, what's wrong?!"

"Nothing!" He snarled angrily.

She whipped back, stung, then hurried out the door.

Trying to steady himself, Clay closed his sweat-laden eyes, his entire body shaking violently.

I can't go on like this.
