WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
Something has changed. It
may have been September 11th. It may have been something else. But
whatever it is, something has changed and now your old ideas don’t work as
well or at all. So you’re ready for some new ideas or willing to give an old
idea another try.
Well, you’ve come to the right place. I want you to reconsider an old
idea that you may have brushed aside or ignored or you may have even tried but
it didn’t give you the results you expected. The old idea is this: the Bible
has all the answers for your life.
Now hold on! Maybe the last time you heard this idea you tried it and it
didn’t work. Or you know of someone who tried it and it didn’t work for
them. I can tell you why it didn’t work. You didn’t understand enough of it
to make it work right. I can tell you without reservation that IF YOU REALLY
UNDERSTOOD THE BIBLE you wouldn’t ever again go looking anywhere else for answers.

But there’s trouble with
big ideas . They are so big they really need to be understood properly to be
useful. But where do you find the time to really understand? For instance, the
idea the Bible has all the answers
for your life. Does that mean you have the read the whole Bible to get the big
idea? Does it mean you have to go to Church for a year or two before you catch
on?
Let’s be realistic. There has got to be a good way to understand how
the Bible has all the answers for your life. I
see the need all around me. People want answers but they don’t have the time
to get them, so I discovered a way to give them a lot of answers in a hurry.
How? Well, a wise man once said, “Understand the larger perspective, and all
the details will fall into place.” What I discovered is that if you give
people the big picture then they’ll get a quick understanding of
how all the details fit in.

How do you get people to see the big perspective? By taking something
that they know about and relating it to whatever it is you want them to
understand. In this case, you want
to understand the big picture about the Bible. How can I relate this to
something you know about? Well, if I take something really popular like a movie
or a song, then I know that millions have seen it or heard it
and it’s something almost everybody understands. That way I can take a
scene or a line and say, “remember this?” and relate it to what I’m trying
to get you to understand. Some movies are great for that. And every once in a
while a film comes along that is exceptional because it is filled with the kind
of scenes that fit exactly the subject you’re trying to teach.
The
Matrix is that kind of
film. It is filled with situations that are amazingly adaptable to explaining
spiritual concepts. As you will see if you read further, there are dozens of
situations that are uniquely suited to be parallels to Biblical truth. That’s
why I’ve chosen The Matrix as my first series of lessons.
What if you haven’t seen The Matrix? Then there are films you
have seen that can be used in the same way. But since I’ve already
produced this series of examples it might be very profitable for you to see The
Matrix before you read further. Fact is, you may want to see it twice,
because it is full of so many
unusual concepts that it may take two sittings to understand it all. Why do I
use a film that has so many “unusual concepts”?
Because the Bible is full of unusual concepts too.
