Demon #1 Sept. 1972 The Origin of The Demon.

Merlin summons Etrigan his guardian demon and destroys Camelot as Morgaine Le Fey attacks trying to gain the Eternity Book. Merlin gives Etrigan a torn part of the book telling him it will be his "destiny --- on earth!!"

Jason Blood, demonologist, visits the sorcerer Warly to show him a piece of torn parchment bearing the words Yarva Etrigan Daemonicus.

Blood is led to Merlin’s tomb in Castle Branek. As it turns out, Warly is working for Morgaine (who is dying and seeking the Eternity Book so she can attain eternal youth) and follow him there. Blood finds inscriptions on a stone "Change! Change, O’ Form of Man! Release the Might from Fleshy Mire! Boil the Blood in Hear of Fire! Gone! Gone! --- The Form of Man -! Rise, the Demon Etrigan!!"

Demon #2 Oct. 1972 Bath of Fire

Etrigan continues to battle Morgaine’s forces. As he gets close to Morgaine she changes him back into his human form.

Back in Gotham City, Glenda, Harry and Randu start to worry. Randu uses the mystic art called "Eye of Kharma" to seek out Jason.

As Jason finds out the tomb of Merlin is also another form of the Eternity Book, Merlin’s ghost appears telling him that Morgaine Le Fey has taken a powerful spell from his breached tomb.

Jason and Inspector Stavic seek out Morgaine in the witches forest Walpurgis Woods. Randu uses his strange ESP to transform Jason into the Demon to fight off an attacker, but Morgaine uses her spell and vanishes.

Demon #3 Nov. 1972 The Reincarnators

The "Master-Eye" Cult are assassinating members of the United Nations who are conducting investigations on them and therefore attempt to kill Randu.

Etrigan haunts Jason's dreams.  Harry is reincarnated into a pirate to attack Jason.

The cult tries to take over the world by transmitting the power of the Master-Eye over the television airwaves.  Etrigan defeats them all.

Special Note:  Etrigan does some rhyming, but only in the form of spells.

As a mind exchange between Merlin and the Iron Duke is to take place, Meg reveals her secret agenda to take Merlin's power.

Blood is being brought to his death but is helped by a secret force, the Dream-beast Somnambula.  Meg is destroyed by her former master.

Demon #6 Feb. 1973 The Howler

Still in the "remote region of Europe", Jason comes to the realization that it must be "the spawning ground for every danger unleashed by occult experiments!"

Jason uses the chant to transform himself to fight off the Howler. 

In human form, Eric Shiller the Howler seeks out Jason to help rid himof his problem by performing an exorcism.  During the exorcism, the Howler returns and falls out of a window in Jason's apartment.  Eric Shiller is found dead, but has the Howler found a new host? "OWOOOOOO".

Special Note:  In the letters column, the original demon sketch is described, and how Kirby decided on the style now used in The Demon.

Demon #7 Mar. 1973 Witchboy

Judge and Draaga attack Etrigan.  Draaga infects Etrigan with poison.  As Etrigan is dying Judge transforms into his true identity Klarion and Draaga into his cat Teekl.  

Back in Jason's apartment, Jason is dying from the poisoning.  Klarion refers to Jason as Uncle and Harry as Cousin.  Teekl waits for death to come, then saves Jason from dying.  Klarion is seeking refuge from his elders who have come to find him. 

At a party Jason is transformed to Etrigan, and a Harpy attacks.  

Klarion's elders capture him, as well as Randu and Harry, but Etrigan saves them and sends Klarion and Teekl to "a safe and distant place where Klarion can do no harm!"

Demon #8 Apr. 1973 Phantom of the Sewers Part 1

The Phantom of the Sewers has stolen the Sword of Merlin from Jason's collection, Etrigan retrieves it and the Phantom disappears into his lair where he talks to Galatea (a mannikin) about how he wishes he could turn her to life, then he plays the organ.

Harry wants another party, Glenda seconds the motion for a costume party.  Jason thinks about Camelot and the demon dominating his life, and uses the Philosophers's Stone to rid himself of Etrigan.

The Phantom crashes Jason's party and takes Glenda thinking she is his Galatea.  Jason cannot summon Etrigan.

Glenda tries to escape and tears off the Phantom's mask revealing a horrible face.  The Phantom tells her it was her sorcery that did it to him.  

Special Note This storyline is based on The Phantom of the Opera.

Demon #9 June 1973 (No May issue) Phantom of the Sewers Part 2 Whatever Happened to Farley Fairfax?!!

Backflash: First a story of Etrigan saving a city from a sorcerer many years after Camelot.

 The police, Harry Randu and Jason hit the sewers to find Glenda.

The Phantom brings Glenda to a deserted stage in an old theatre and reveals he is Farley Fairfax and that Galatea had stolen his soul.

Jason almost Dies from high voltage in the sewers then realizes he has the Philosopher's Stone and it saved his life and thinks it can bring back Etrigan.  The Demon returns but only partially, he is now half Etrigan and half Jason!  He rests and completely transforms and finds Farley and Glenda.

Demon #10 July 1973 Phantom of the Sewers Part 3 The Thing that Screams

Etrigan learns the past of what happened to Farley Fairfax.  Galatea summoned the Soul Snatcher on stage during a performance.  As the present returns, Etrigan makes himself known and vows to help Farley.  He uses The Sign of Kabaal to hsummon Asmodon who if he beats will be his slave and tell the whereabouts of the real Galatea.

Galatea appears and summons the Soul Snatcher and disappears.  Demon destroys it, Glenda is saved and Farley gets his face back.  Farley starts to age rapidly and he dies from shock.

Randu finally tries using his ESP and finds The Phantom's hidden lair.  Galatea is in the mannikin, she destroys the lair and herself, but Harry and Randu escape.

Etrigan battles Von Rakenstein as his Monster is loose in the city.  Rakenstein and Igor flee and return in the city to destroy the Monster and Etrigan.  But Etrigan has the Philosopher's Stone.  A blast is seen and as it settles Jason is found with a shiny stone and 2 vultures soaring into the night.

Merlin contacts Jason and summons him to Tintagel (the ruins of King Arthur's birth place), but before he can go Jason meets up with the Man-beast.

 

Etrigan saves Batman from the Man-beast.  The Man-beast was created in the sea, he was formerly a murderer named Jack Dobbs.

 

Merlin almost fouls things up by punishing the Demon for not showing up to Tintagel, but Randu uses his ESP to contact him.

Demon #16 Jan. 1974 Immortal Enemy

Klarion and Teekl celebrate their victory.

Kafir captures Etrigan for Morgaine and she brands her "mark" on Etrigan so that he cannot defy her.  Warly brings Glenda who has the Philosopher's Stone to Morgaine who shows her that Jason and Etrigan are one.  Warly steals the Philosopher's Stone from Glenda and mummifies Morgaine, but her wrath destroys Warly.  The "mark" is gone from Jason and all that is left is the Philosopher's Stone.

"THIS ENDS THE ADVENTURES OF THE DEMON."
