Pause the Attempts

Andrea Heins
December 24/01

Warmth cannot get through to me
Shivering, wrapped in cold grief
Despair I first found on your face
Is standing in my smile's place

You've got my sympathy;
If only that were what you need

Can't we please pause
Our fruitless attempts to cope
Take a look around
Find a reason for real hope

We've still got love
We've still got love in the midst of the pain
We still have life
And we'll still have life when all else dies away

Tears remain a constant threat
For all our love, we're not healed yet
As years pass and scars start to fade
We'll find new-bought strength for the price we just paid

This minor song in a major key
Reflects the hope persisting in me

Can't we please pause
Our fruitless attempts to speed
The healing process up
We're just pushing the knife in even more deep
Don't you see...

He shows His love
He shows His love in the midst of our pain
He gives us life
And He'll give us life when all else dies away
