Computer Class for Gypsy Children in Jarovnice, Slovakia
Program - Year 2000

(Sponsored by Polish-American Ethnological Society, members.aol.com/paespate)

The uniqueness of Jan Sajko's effort and of the achievements of his students on one hand, and the lack of the final success (which would be the eventual passage of the students to "normal" life) on the other, makes one think about what can be done to accomplish that goal.

The conclusion is that adding another skill, "computing", could be the solution. Such a project should not only bring an additional dimension to the Jarovnice school art program, but should also strenghten the links within the students' families, between the families and school, and should also reach out to other schools and communities.

In May, 2000 Pawel Bakowski will teach the teachers and students of the elementary school in Jarovnice how to establish a newsletter using desktop publishing techniques on a PC. The main goal of this part of the project is to enhance school programs that are already under way.

At the beginning of June the exhibit of art of the children from Jarovnice will be displayed in Warsaw, Poland.

In the final part of the project, Jan Sajko will come to the United States to participate in the summer activities of The Boys And Girls Club and to study Web and Desktop Publishing.
