Body Position!

the four positions are:

When ever you can always support yourself while shooting. There are four body positions that I will tell you about. Although, there is many other positions that branch out from others like hawkins; that is a type of prone position that is basicly just lower than that of it's originator. I will list the four positions in order from least stable to most stable, so here they are: standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone. While shooting try to be comfortable because you shoot better when you feel more comfortable. Most lond distance shooters would recommend the prone position because it is the steadiest but it is also the slowest to assume. It also provides more cover if you are being shot at or being shot at.

Sitting is the second steadiest position, and provides good cover. Its field of view is restricted and it still takes a little of time to assume. When sitting make sure that you support your rifle on your knees or with a mono/bi-pod. I would also recommend the use of a tactical sling. Most people think of a sling as a carrying strap, but a tactical shooter uses it for support. If you coose to try to use a sling as support all you need to do is undo the guns sling near the butt and put your arm through the loop and tighten it. make sure that if you pull down on the sling you dont pull so hard that it pulls the fore-arm away from the barrel or this might affect your zero.

Kneeing would be a postion Iwould use only when you are spotted, have little cover, or are shooting in a defensive manner.

And of course at last, there is standing. I wouldn't shoot from this postion unless you have to get you and your team out quick and have to shoot back to detour your pursuer. When you go to the range you should practice all of these postions at different ranges so you can determine which you are the best at and the worst at. You should still be calling your shots and comparing it to your spotters results. Your spotter should be like a shooting coach and tell you wind and range estimations, compensations, wind gusts, etc, etc.
