5. Select the Elipse layer by clicking on the name and the Drawing layer above it by holding the shift key depressed,while clicking on it.
Move the selection by dragging it up under the column.
6. At this point you can see the column taking shape, but the top of the column now looks out of perspective, so on the Layer Palette, turn off the top object on the vector layer, the top circle.
Here is our black column.
7. Now, we must convert the vector layer to a raster layer to be able to continue. To do this, right click on the Top Hat layer and select, "Convert to Raster Layer. This will merge the individual visible parts into a regular layer.
8. You can use it as its, or you can use the Colorize function to give the column some color. To make it gold like the one on my main page, you use the Chrome effect to make it gold.
Under the Effects menu, select, "Artistic Effects", Chrome.
Use the following settings.
Here is a basic black and gold column.
I used this same technique using the column portion rotated to make parts of my interface for this site. Play around with some more of the preset shapes, taking them apart and you may be surprised what uses you can find for them.
