Okay, in this section I will be putting in a whole bunch of things, such as, updates on what I've been doing, new interests, and some funky downloads that you might like. Probably going to be the most active of all sections in my homepage. I hope you enjoy them!

Konichi-wa! Genki des ka? How have things been going? Ain't the end of summer such a beautiful thing? Groggy mornings, persistant alarm clocks, last minute preparations for.. SCHOOL! Yes folks, school's started up for me again, my mini-three week(?) summer vacation is done and long over with. My room endaevors is finished and all the furniture has been put in aesthetically pleasing locations. Volleyball grass league is over with in which we came in... FIRST PLACE! We won the division "A" league! Woo hoo! To cherish the occasion, and to award our performance, we won t-shirts with the league logo on it and on the back is reads "CHAMPIONS"! Life just doesn't get better than that (Ok, you've all told me enough times that I really need a life, just let me relish in my small victory!). >_<

Let's see, what else? Well, like I said, school's started for me and I'm really, really happy that it has. I think if there was anything that I could thank my parents for, it would be the opportunity they have provided me in aquiring an education. Kinda ironic when you think about it, in that, when I was in high school I almost dropped out without looking back. Now I'm tinkering with a double major and an additional major in law. Hehe, wouldn't it be cool to say "Yes, I have a bachelors in Arts (Asian Studies), a bachelors in science (bio-psychology), and a bachelors in Law." Funky eh? Don't know about the law part yet because I'm facing an chance at pursuing graduate studies. Oh well, we'll see.. although, my heart IS in law. We'll see..

Ok, I absolutely have to mention this. I just downloaded the Pokemon: The First Movie trailer and it looks absolutely awesome!!! Mew and Mewto make an appearance! Ok, no questions about how old I am alright!??! Jeesh, can't a guy bond with his niece and nephew in peace? Right.. anyways, that movie is premiering here in North America on November 12th. For all those that CAN'T wait fot the movie, you can watch the movie in japanese which probably came out 2 years ago knowing how behind we are here with things like that.

Oh, now that's school has started I'm also once again employed. Working for the U.B.C. Disability Center has definately opened my eyes as to how much we take for granted. In a workshop for tuitors, I was asked the question as to where we as a society view disabled people. Although I never participated my answer to the group, I still think it's prevalent. I believe that in our society, we have great empathy and compassion for the disabled and are willing to donate time and money, or what have you, to help them. What my problem is that, yes, we do have this compassion and empathy for them SO LONG as they are aesthetically pleasing to ourselves. Oftentimes, we view handicapped as those as whom look like average people but with a disability which may or may not be outwardly noticeable. My beef is that this view is extremely narrow and is something enforced by television and other forms of media. I wonder what would be the case for social acceptance if the disabled person was disfigured? Would we still have this empathy? Would we still have this compassion? I may be grasping here, but in a way could it not be likened to racism? Handicapped/Disabled as another race? Think about it...

One thing for sure though is I definately have the utmost respect for them. When faced with adversity, they overcome their disability to achieve. In our tuitorship meeting, one tuitor commented that the person she was helping knew which pages to goto etc. Curious, as to how her student knew which page it was on, as she was blind, she said "I may be blind, but that doesn't mean I can't see.". Doesn't that just blow your mind away? Sometimes it makes me wonder "now, who really is the handicapped person? The one that can't hear yet has hearing, or the one that has hearing yet can't hear." Interesting eh?

Alright, enough of the perils of human nature and our inabilies. As a lighthearted note now that school is once again upon us, stress and all that unpleasant stuff can be conquered by some fun things that can be found on at these sites. Three such places are: Yahoo.com Games, where you can take out your aggressive tendancies on others in the game section of this site. They have such games as: Poker, Blackjack, and my favorite, Mahjong! At Mahjong Online they have, yes, Mahjong and for you Big2 fans, a section dedicated to that addictive game which almost put my academic career in jeoprody. For you movie fans, Famous Players times and locations across North America can be found. Alrighty, that's it for today. I know, it's a light update. To tell you the truth, I'm kinda running out of ideas for updates.. that or I haven't been exploring the net enough for you all. If you have any suggestions for future updates, feel free to update me at delangjai@hotmail.com. In the meantime, and in between time, please take care and good luck in the comming semester.. that is if you're in N. America. All you others, good luck in your finals and all that other fun stuff.

Oh, thank you so much to those that have signed my guestbook. You're all too sweet! All of you except for EVA, the TRUE "New Kids On the Block" lover! ^_~

August 26,1999

Whoa! Man, am I getting lazy about updating and finishing my homepage. Sorry people. Me bad. =( So? What have I been doing the last month? Well, my summer course ended about a week and a half ago. Essay was done, final written. WOO HOO! Not bad grade either, might I add. It'd be scary to see what would of happend if I hadn't been disillusioned by my prof. and had tried harder! Oh well, a good grade is better than NO grade at all. ^_^
Let's see, what else? Hmmm.. since school has been out for me I was all of a sudden possessed by Leonardo Da Vinci's ghost (that or a home decorator). I tore down my wallpaper of over 10 years, filled in the cracks from my ninja-wannabe-stage (ninja throwing stars inclusive), and painted so far two walls orange. YES, orange! It was supposed to be a lighter shade of orange.. actually, I wanted it to be somewhere along the lines of mustard.. anyways, orange it is (NOT a word from you Kayla! "HEAT!" 'Nuff said.. ^_~). Anyways, the rest of the walls are going to be painted navy blue and burgandy. Each painted a solid solitary color per wall, so basically, its like each direction a different color. Well kinda.. my room is an "L" shape so use your imagination. I'll post some pictures up once it's done. It'll be beautiful... I hope. >_<
Alright, other than my room all I have been doing is playing volleyball. So far my team is ranked 5th out of 20 teams. We beat the 2nd place team and lost to the 1st place team, although we didn't really because we ran out of time before we could finish the second set. Anyways, that winds up on the 19th of September. Wish us luck! ^_^
Speaking of September, school starts up full bloom again on the 7th, so all you U.B.C.'ers out there better start making your offerings to your favorite Gods, deities, witch doctors, and supernaturalists. I for one can't wait. I feel so lost without school.. sad huh? =(

Alright, enough filabuster here, time for the beneficial aspect of this update. Since I've decided to renovate my own room etc., I thought that I should stick with this theme and provide you with something to "renovate" your computer. ^_^ No, no orange paint ("HEAT!" I just couldn't resist.) or polyfiller etc. needed. Required is a little disk space, some patience, a mouse, and a hand with a minimum of a pointer finger and palm. Oh, one note.. the site and instructions that I am going to provide you with are only applicable to Windows only. Sorry Mac users, I don't know how to use your type of operating system... Classic Bill Gates brain-washing.

What am I talking about? Renovating my computer!?!?! Wallpaper?!?! Huh? Well, one the greatest things about personal computers is the ability to change what you see and hear day in and day out whenever you switch it on. At Winfiles.com, you can download a variety of pictures and affiliated sounds for your computer which match your tastes. The downloads are free and take little time depending on the type of download. If you are just downloading a picture, that'll take less than 2-3 minutes. Complete "theme" packages which include start-up/shut-down pictures (pictures that appear when you turn on and off your computer), a main picture (aka. wallpaper), and as well, sound files. As I mentioned on the last update, sound files require a long amount of time to download (and a bit of space too on your hard drive since its in .wav format). Depending on the type of download you chose, most of them are pretty simple to upload onto your computer. Most theme packages, once unzipped, will basically do the work for you in placing the appropriate files in the appropriate locations (that is AFTER clicking an .exe or execute file which does the work for you.. just look for it). If you have any problems, usually there are README files that provide you with instructions and if you STILL have problems, you can email me at my hotmail account. Gee, I hope that was all clear for you..

Wallpaper.. if you have a picture that you particularily like, you can post it on the main screen of you computer by:
1) goto your main screen and right click, a menu should pop-up, 2) select properties (right click), this should then bring up a large box with the picture of your current picture or 'wallpaper" on your computer screen. 3) You can select one of the listed wallpapers or add your own by right clicking on Browse, find the location of your where the desired picture is (eg. C:\Personal\Pics\Immafunkydonut.jpg). 4) Right click on that file and then it should appear on the pop-up box as a preview on how it would look on your main screen. You can also tile the picture, center, and stretch the picture according to your taste. 5)Finally, right click on Apply and then OK and VOILA! C'est ca! Your piece de resistance should be on your main screen.

One quick note: On that pop-up box you will also find the options for changing screen savers and icons. Just follow the same directions and you should be able to personalize your computer like I have mine. My computer is a cartoon nightmare... The Simpsons sounds, AstroBoy icons, Japanese Anime wallpaper, and Pokemon & DragonBall opening and closing screens all blended into one. I think I have an identity crisis.. what do you think? Anyways, all of these files can be found at WinFiles.com including screen saves and icons so "Happy Hunting" and, like I said, if you have any problems, feel free to email me anytime. Bonne Chance!

One thing that I must absolutely stress is to ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU ARE SAVING THINGS!!! Always, always make sure you know where you are putting your files. One thing that I always do is to create New Folders and name them according to their contents. This can be achieved by clicking on the yellow folder that has a little star at the corner of it. You'll see this when you decide on something to save and asks you what you'd like to name it..

Me sleep. Bye. ^_~

OH! Before I go, why won't anyone sign my guestbook? ~>_<~ *sniff* It's starting to get personal.. =(

July 25,1999

Sorry, its been a while since I did my last update, things have been kinda hectic for me with school, volleyball, and all. =(
Well, I just had my midterm in my stoopid summer course. Let's just say that One should NEVER argue with your prof. the day before its handed back. ~~>_<~~ (I wonder what mark I would have gotten if I didn't argue with him... (*sigh* me and my big mouth!)
Anyways, with that aside, school is close to winding down (another 3 weeks?) which means 1 major essay and 1 major final exam. HOW FUN (sarcasm is such a powerful tool)! Other than that, all I've been doing is playing volleyball. So far, my team and I are a sad 5 wins and 4 losses. Its amazing how difficult it is to organize and maintain a team of six. For most of our games we've usually played with only 4-5 players! This league is a SIX players against SIX players people! JEESH team, you're giving me gray hair! >_<

Anyways, for today's beneficial programs or websites for your pleasure, I thought it would be nice to make it a music theme. Right now I absolutely love this Japanese song by Utada Hikaru named First Love. Can you believe that this girl is only 16 and wrote/composed all her songs?!?!?! Hmmm..when I was 16, I was busy skipping classes, hehe.. ^_^

Click on her picture to check out more about her. ^_^

Here's another site, thanks to Jocey, is a great MP3 site. NOT only does footy.com have chinese songs, but also it has links to affiliate sites for: Japanese, English, Thai, and New Age Mp3's. I can't say enought about this site. It's safe, it's quick, and it's free. ^_^
On to MP3s (CLICK ME LIKE I KNOW YOU WANT TO)!

For those of you who haven't discovered MP3's, what they are are audio music files stored in digital form onto your computer, otherwise known as MPEG 3 (or MP3 for short). Generally free, MP3's provide crisp CD quality as opposed to the slow, memory consuming .WAV files which sound like old analog audio cassettes. In order to enter the world of MP3's, you need to download a program that plays the MP3's. I recommend WinAmp. Not only is it pretty user friendly, its also FREE! Me likey free...

Anyways, I hope things have been going absolutely awesome for all of you. Y'all better be making the most out of your summer while you can (uh..that is except for all you Aussie's out there. ^_~ Krys.. *cough* *cough*) Have a great day! WOO HOO! LONG WEEKEND COMMING UP FOR ME..although, I have no idea what holiday it is! O_o

July 12,1999

Hehe..ok you guys, gallery is finally up! Hope you enjoy the pics! Remember! Barf bags are highly recommended!
Anyways, this update is going to be very very brief. Its 3:33 am and I thought I'd just inform you people that that page is up. Okies, me go now. Class tommorrow... Zzzzzzzzzzz.

July 7,1999

Whoa! 102 hits and my page isn't even finished yet! Thanks to you all that have dropped by my humble little page. I promise I'll get it done soon (I hope)! ^_~

Okay, summer school has started up for me now and you know what? Its pretty fun! I love my class! I'm taking a 6 credit course on Chinese Modern History that lasts for little over a month (for you Americans out there, 6 credits is the equivalent to 2 classes). So as you can see its pretty intensive.. yet interesting. For example, did you know that (for you chinese out there) that Tong Yun Guy (cantonse pingying) means "foreign communities", otherwise known as Chinatown? Tong or Tang comes from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) which at the time had many foreigners living within what we know as China today. As foreigners began to settle, communities formed and were eventually refered to as Tong/Tang yun or "foreign people" over time. Cool eh?

Lets see, what can I do to make your day more productive or at least something that I can do that may be useful? Hmmm..I know! Even though the Y2K millenium bug scare has died down significantly, the threat is nonetheless still there. Here's a website that has free shareware programs that you might find useful in detecting if your own personal computer is millenium compliant. The site is David Chalk's whom has a weekly television show over here in Vancouver. Hopefully you'll find it useful. ^_^
