| Searching on the Net
There is a whole pile of
information out there on the information
highway. In order to help
you sort the whole mess out, there are
tools called Search Engines.
They are very much like a T.V. Guide
for the internet.
One of the most popular search
engines is called YAHOO. To find
Yahoo on the net, all you
have to do is type "yahoo" (without the
quotation marks) in the
browser window (that's that blank
white line up there near
the top of the screen that says
"location" next to it.)
"How do I search for information
using Yahoo?" you might ask.
Good question.
You can type the name of
the thing that you are looking for,
say, "mythology," in the
window it provides.
Now that is going to give
you a LOT of sites, maybe so many you
might get dizzy... Say you
wanted to look up something specific
from mythology, like, the
Minotaur. Try just typing minotaur in
the Yahoo search engine.
What do you get?
Well, at first, some sites
about a rock band called "the
Minotaur", and then
a software company and then .... you sigh
in frustration and kick
the computer.
So how do you find sites
about the Minotaur from Mythology?
WELL, you need to tell the
computer to look for them. Here's
how:
type
+minotaur +mythology in the Yahoo
Search Engine.
That will bring back only
the sites which contain both references
to Minotaurs AND mythology.
