An anapest is a foot of poetry consisting of three syllables: two unstressed followed by a stressed. An iamb is the most common poetic foot: two syllables, one unstressed and one stressed. The other two most common feet are the dactyl - one stressed followed by two unstressed, and the trochee - one stressed followed by one unstressed.
