Act 3 Scene 5

Recall the instructions Friar Lawrence gave to Romeo at the end of Act 3 Scene 3.
When this scene opens, we see the young couple in the early morning after having spent their first night together as husband and wife.

1. In the opening lines, Romeo and Juliet debate  whether the bird they hear oustide the window is a lark or a nightingale. They do this because:

    a) Verona has just announced its annual bird-watching competition and they think that
        if they win, the Prince will overturn Romeo's banishment.
    b) They've just found out that they don't love each other after all, and they deliberately
        got into an argument in order to break up.
    c) The lark sings in the morning and the nightingale sings at night. If the nightingale is
        singing, then it means it is still night, and Romeo does not have to leave yet.
