I am interested in exploring how technologies affect our lives. In this context, more recently, I have become interested in the ways in which information technologies are shaping how we organize and how we learn. I am taking a number of initiatives to explore the impact of these new information technologies on teaching, research and practice.

Born in India, I completed my Bachelors of Technology (1978) from the Indian Institute of Technology, India, and my MBA (1980) from Xavier Institute, India. Subsequently, I was a project manager charged with the responsibility of transferring technology from hi-tech firms in Japan to a manufacturing firm in India. I completed my Ph.D. in Strategic Management and Organization from the University of Minnesota (1989).

I have taught several graduate, undergraduate, Ph.D. and Executive MBA courses at NYU including Business Strategy Analysis, Corporate Strategy, Technological Innovation and New Product Development, and Creativity: The Final Frontier. My primary research interests lie in exploring the nexus between technology, strategy & organizations. Currently, my research focuses on governance modes spawned by the advent of new information technologies.

I have published in the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Research Policy, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Industrial and Corporate Change and other journals. My most recent publications have to do with new organizational forms, technological path-creation, economies of substitution, researcher persistence, technology embeddedness and technology entrepreneurship.

With Praveen Nayyar and Zur Shapira, I have co-editing "Technological Innovation: Oversights and Foresights that was published by Cambridge University Press. A complementary book that I am co-editing with Peter Karnoe is titled "Path dependence and path creation" to be published by Lawrence Earlbaum Associates. A third edited book with Joe Porac is titled "Cognition, Knowledge and Organization" that is published by JAI Press. Oxford Press recently published "The Innovation Journey" that is co-authored with Andrew H. Van de Ven, Doug Polley and S. Venkataraman.
