Dennis:
Iron Armor:How did you guys start out as a band?
Dennis:
Iron Armor:I guess that goes into the next question...you guys definitely have an old school sound, do you share the same musical influences?
Dennis:yeah straight up man. Everybody in the band likes our type of music, we like the same bands mostly. We do an old school sound but yet it's new. It's not like these other bands, like these straight edge bands that are doing '88 style hardcore that has all been done, like an imitation of Bold or Youth Of Today. We do something the old school way with different changes but still with influence of bands that we like Negative Approach, AF, stuff like that.
Iron Armor:
Dennis:Yeah definitely, it was the number one cause. He busted all the clubs; he started enforcing Caberet laws that you can't dance in certain clubs. He pulled all these laws out of the woodwork. Clubs were getting closed down because they couldn't have dancing and they couldn't have these types of shows. So he was the main person, because he always tried to clean things up withh his "Quality of Life" bullshit.
Iron Armor:Do you think that once he gets out of office and if there's a better mayor that things will pick up again maybe?
Dennis: I think so. I think it'll be a new change. I don't think the new mayor will be as petty as him. I mean people are getting ticketed for jaywalking and shit like that. I knew someone that got a ticket for falling asleep on the train. this guy's talking about taking a break for four years and then coming back into office, which is a scary thought. We don't need that, hopefully a new mayor will come in and there will be a new change, a new direction.
Iron Armor: Where do you guys enjoy playing the most?
Dennis:CBGB's...even though we can't play there that much (laughs). CB's is the most fun to play 'cause there's no places to play out here in the city. Wetlands is doing shows again, but the most fun to play is always at CB's.
Iron Armor:What covers do you guys do live?
Dennis:Ahhh we do so many different covers live; we do Negative Approach "Ready To Fight", we've done Breakdown songs, Iron Cross songs, we've done Side by Side and shit like that, Warzone also. You can tell the type of shit that we like.
Iron Armor: You guys have already established a bad reputation in New York (Dennis Laughs), resulting in you guys getting banned from a few places around here.
Dennis:It's a Good Reputation, HAHAHAHA!
Iron Armor:Do you think this will lead to the downfall of FED UP!?
Dennis:Oh fuck no. It's all bullshit. We'll just continue to do stuff like what we did tonight, we'll play under a different name and shit. If a few people can't handle a few fights here and there then we get a bad rep. There's a few bands that have that rep like Oxblood, they can't play anywhere. We'll just go somewhere else, another borough or we'll go out of state.
Iron Armor: Do you write all the lyrics?
Dennis: yeah pretty much...I write most of the lyrics man or me and the other guys. We always work together; it's a team thing you know. Everybody has their say, no dictatorship. No Giuliani's in this band.
Iron Armor:What inspires you to write music?
Dennis: Just everyday life, shit that happens, you know when you have your struggles, when you get into fights, when there's always bullshit going on, yo that's inspiration, that's something to write about.
Iron Armor:Have you guys written any new songs lately?
Dennis: Ummm yeah, we got a few new songs that we're doing, you know, but we haven't recorded stuff yet. We're still doing that split 7" that's going to come out with Criminal Intent, it should be out end of the year or beginning of next year, you know the deal.
Iron Armor: Anything else in the future for FED UP!?
Dennis: We're just gonna keep playing on stage, put out that 7" and we might be on a couple of comps. Then maybe in a couple of years we may do another CD, we'll see how that works out if everything is underground sound like we sound.
Iron Armor:So that's about rounds it up. Any last comments or anything...
Dennis:Drink,Fuck, Live Life, that's what it's all about. Shout outs to all my boys in Criminal Intent and all the other good bands like Step2Far, Awkward Thought, Oxblood and you know the rest i can't name them all, they all sound the same HAHAHAHA. Check out the website, email me and you know the deal.
