A WORD ON HYSTERECTOMY'S

Angel Holding Bunny
Are you contemplating having a hysterectomy? Five years ago my gynecologist recommended that I have one due to severe endometriosis. Since this is major surgery I did not enter into it lightly. I did a lot of research and I asked a lot of questions. After much thought and prayer and the opinion of another doctor, I decided to have the surgery. Back when I was doing my research, I ran across a lot of negative information warning women about the dangers of having a hysterectomy. Mainly because my experience was so positive, I decided to share it with women who are considering having this same surgery.

I had this surgery when I was 35 years old and I remember being very concerned about how my body would respond to the hormone loss. A laparoscopy revealed bleeding tumors on both of my ovaries and I was concerned about having them removed. Although it took a little time for me to get on the proper dose of estrogen, I feel much better today than I did before I had the surgery. After coping with pelvic pain for years, I am happy to report that I no longer have these symptoms. For me, having this surgery was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Although I am not suggesting that hormone replacement therapy is right for everyone, I decided that it was the very best thing for me. Since I am a little leery about taking high doses of estrogen, I take the bare minimum and then I balance it out with a natural form of progesterone cream. I have discovered that natural progesterone can help eliminate or reduce the need for estrogen. It can also help women who are going through menopause or experiencing the symptoms of PMS. Although this surgery took care of my pelvic pain, I credit natural progestrone for taking care of my irritability, mood swings, etc. If you are interested in this, I have given detailed information about progesterone here on my HORMONE PAGE. It can be used whether or not you decide to have this surgery. There are also natural forms of estrogen that are available. I may consider trying them in the future but right now I am sticking with the therapy that I feel is working best for me.

While it is true that there are women who have reported their regrets, there are also many women that feel good about their decision to have this surgery. I am very thankful to be one of them. Although this surgery is sometimes needlessly performed, I feel that there are women who really benefit from having it. Considering the fact that we hear so much about the negative outcomes, I wanted to share my story and give you a positive report to compare alongside with the others. If you are looking for more information on this subject I have included links that I hope will enable you to make the choice that is right for you. I hope that you receive the very best medical care as you seek to make a decision that is best one for you and for your state of health.
