The fallen tree...a tale of two branches

The first limb of the tree fell in mid October during an enthusiastic wind and sleet storm. This limb landed on our garage roof, cracking two of the roof trusses (sp?) all the way through and damaging several others. Part of the limb tore all the way through the roof, leaving it open to the elements, while the part of the roof that absorbed the worst of the impact developed a sort of caved in appearance. Due to my grandpa's expedient cutting up and carting away of the tree (and my primary residence being at school) there are no photos of this limb.

The second limb fell just before New Year's while we were on vacation. I have photos. To see the photo enlarged, just click on it.

This picture was taken with my back against the garage.

This picture was taken from the front of our neighbor's yard.

This picture was taken from the road.

This is a picture of the little maple tree that the big oak limb more or less fell on top of. One of the maple's larger branches has been torn off, and one of the oak's smaller branches is still lodged in the maple tree.

This is all we have left standing of the tree, about thirty feet of trunk. The most recent branch to fall has split the trunk for quite a ways.

Mom was concerned about her plantings around the base of the discontented tree, so I took a few pictures. This one looks back toward the house and shows a couple of plants sticking up out of the snow and looking like the escaped fairly well.

This picture shows the two plants that I believe Mom was most concerned about. As far as I can tell, it doesn't look like they've lost even so much as a leaf...but this is likely to change as soon as grandpa comes to dispose of the limb.
