Grandview School Resource Officer - A Discussion Website

What is this website about?

I made this site to present information about the SRO (School Resource Officer, a full time policeman assigned to the schools) in the Grandview Schools. I don't believe we need a SRO, and I think that it would be a waste of money. There are questions to be answered about why the program was even proposed by Chief Shewring and Mr. Allen. Please read the documents I have found, and make your own decision.

This website is not about bashing the Grandview police. I have great respect for them, and I think they do a good job when they stick to their mission. I'm not opposed to the idea that police can be a good role model. I just think that a SRO would not be effective in the mission that has been defined.

SRO program passed by city council

Bernie Scanlon, Jim Egan, Anthony Panzera and Kelly Finan voted on Jan 6 2003 to implement the SRO plan. Although Finan had first said she would vote to ask the school to pay for part of the SRO, the vote requires the city to pay for all of the costs of the SRO. The Chief has some verbal assurances that the grants that were to supplement the COPS grant can be obtained, but the decision will be up to the administrators of the grants. The cost without those grants will be in excess of $120K for the first four years.
