Thor Pepper :

Tier: Jimmy D Moore

How, when and where to fish:

While this might seem an odd appearing fly, it incorporates the bright colors that attract steelhead. This fly can also be tied, using lead wire as an underbelly, to get the fly down quicker

The Pattern:

Hook Daiichi 2441 Traditional Steelhead hook
Thread Danville Claret - flat waxed nylon
Body Claret Chenille
Hackle Christmas Green saddle hackle
Tail Christmas Green Saddle Hackle

.Wrap Danville thread on hook as normal, tie in tail. Leave tag hanging. Tie in Chenille and wrap thread all the way to the eye throw in a couple of half hitches to hold thread. Then palmer chenille moderately tight to 1/8 from eye, palmer back to tail and then back flush to 1/8" from eye.. Tie off and clip chenille off. Tie in Saddle hackle, and tie off with a couple of half hitches. At this point your bobbin / thread are hanging down ready for Whip Finish. Since the thread is a brilliant red, I use only Sally Hansen's "Hard as Nails" to coat the head.
