Sister Sue Fazzini was honored at the 2007 Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Award Ceremony with the Thomas A. Fulcomer Award.   Sister Sue has worked in the field of Addictions Treatment for twenty years and has been an employee with the Department of Corrections for the past three years.  The Thomas Fulcomer Award is given each year to one employee in the  Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.  The award was named in honor of Thomas Fulcomer, a DOC deputy secretary who died in 2002 after a battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Fulcomer was the embodiment of a true professional in the way he performed his job and how he interacted with people. The award recognizes a DOC employee with similar characteristics

Sue was nominated for this award due to being an exceptionally positive, caring and competent employee.  Her upbeat attitude and compassion for ALL people highlight her work as a treatment specialist and has earned her respect from staff and inmates alike.  From the beginning of her employment with the Department of Corrections she has been actively involved with service projects such as the Empowerment Committee she co-chairs  with Superintendent Louis Folino.

As one of ten children, Sue related that she has been inspired by her parents to serve those less fortunate.  She has a compassionate and caring professionalism that sets the standard for her work not only at SCI Greene but also in the rural Greene county area where she lives. In addition to her intensive group with maximum-security inmates Sister Sue was recognized for her outstanding community service in Greene County.

In 1989 Sister Sue along with Sister Audrey Quinn started the Greene County Mission in rural Greene County, PA.  Since its inception, Sister Sue and Audrey began doing outreach in the area and were enthusiastically embraced by the people of the county.

Sister Sue began working at the local outpatient clinic providing drug and alcohol treatment.  Recognizing that the effects of addiction are multi-faceted, Sister Sue and Sister Audrey organized a number of volunteer efforts to enable those struggling to get back on their feet.

Working with children and their families through tutoring, counseling, housing, and simply assisting people with meeting their basic needs, the Greene County Mission is known as a safe haven and a place of belonging regardless of ones lot in life.

The Sisters organize several ongoing projects to assist people in the area: Heart & Sole provides a new pair of school shoes for children;  food baskets are distributed at Thanksgiving; winter coats are distributed in November;  backpacks & Christmas gifts in December.   As Foster Parents Sue and Audrey have provided a safe refuge for over 150 children and assist their families with basic resources when possible.

As child advocates, both Sue and Audrey were selected as members of the State Round Table Inititiative.   Sister Sue was selected to attend the Harrisburg meeting of advocates from across the state with a focus on collaborating efforts to increase the delivery of services to children in need.

Sues selection as the Fulcomer Award winner acknowledges the work she does at the prison as well as the countless hours she devotes to spreading the Benedictine spirit in Greene County. Thanks Sue, for making a world of difference!!!!
