History of the Greene County Mission

Founded in 1989, Sisters Audrey Quinn and Sue Fazzini presently staff the Greene County Ministry site.  Arriving in Greene county as complete strangers, we felt as though we were on an adventure, with God leading the way.

We brought  few possessions, wishing to live simply (and besides, we weren't sure how long we would be here!!!) and so we arrived with 2 chairs, 2 dressers, a card table, an incense pot and our prayer books. We did not know a single person, we only knew that God led us here and would direct us in the path to follow.

We immediately began to involve ourselves in the needs of the community through volunteer work: tutoring adults for their G.E.D., working with the Food bank and Greene County Habitat for Humanity, as well as our church community of St. Ann in Waynesburg.  Sister Sue was hired as an addictions counselor at the local outpatient clinic and we went from not knowing a single soul to feeling very much a part of the Greene County Community.

In addition to following the Rule of St. Benedict  we developed a philosophy to guide our lives while residing at this mission site. It states:

We commit ourselves to a life of simplicity, a life of reverence, and a life of openness and hospitality..........sharing our material and spiritual goods out of abundance or scarcity.

Guided by the Rule of St. Benedict, we live our lives according to the Gospel message. As Benedictine women we begin our day with prayer, asking God's blessing on our work, and asking for guidance in our lives.

God's hand has been quite evident during our time in Greene County and angels have definitely been placed in our path. To learn more about our ministry and the many miracles that have been placed in our lives, follow the links above.
