  Fabulous Freddie

There are some artistes who are incapable of doing songs which do not sound good - Freddie McGreggor is one such act.

Given this fact, it is obvious that his latest effort - the VP produced Signature - is certainly worth a listen. Interestingly, though don't expect the entire collection to appeal to you immediately, it won't.

Yet, having heard it the first time, there is this fascinating urge to hear it again and again and the appreciation of this CD just seems to grow.

It does, however, have an impeccable first 'signature' track, 'I See It In You'. Done on the same rhythm as the Morgan Heritage hit, 'Down By The River' this track, a sweet sounding love song, will get you singing and hooked on the album.

Most of this album has that characteristic traditional-yet-fresh-sound which so many McGreggor songs of the current era have been able to capture.

There are three cover versions in the package: 'Take Good Care Of You' (Johnny Bristol), 'I Don't Want To Lose You' (Spinners) and 'Last Thing On My Mind' (Jose Feleciano) all songs from the 1970s.

McGreggor, is known traditionally for doing reasonable covers and these tracks are no different, though they are by no means the best songs on the compilation.

What is most striking about this CD, is the incredible calmness of the musical arrangement, the signature of Dean Fraser who has added horny flavour to a number of the tracks along with sweet harmonising which has made this CD special as a complete listening experience.
