Allison Lickley is a singer/songwriter who charms audiences with her stories and captures them with her songs. Known for her honest, intimate performances, her voice is often compared to those of Joni Mitchell and Sarah McLachlan. Born in Edmonton, raised in Sudbury, schooled in the Maritimes, and currently living in Montreal, this Canadian singer/songwriter has come a long way since writing her first song in the back of her parents’ Volvo wagon. The daughter of two scientist/musician parents, it seemed almost logical that Lickley would first earn a degree in Chemistry before moving to Montreal to officially start her music career. And now, four years after moving to Montreal, Lickley has released her first full-length, fully-produced record, You Might Find Me Here. In 2009, the album was nominated for Best Vocal Performance on a Recording, Best Songwriter, and Best Album, at the 2009 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards.
For the past 20 years, Justine Gogoua, originally from the Ivory Coast, has been living from her art. Justine is an actress, a musician, a singer, a dancer, and an educator. “My drum helps support women victims of violence from all cultures. My art helps me speak out, gives a voice to all women who are abused, abandoned, and need hope and courage” says Justine. Her group, Tam Tam Mama, is comprised of eight artists, all from West Africa except for the percussionist who is originally from Toronto. Justine has been living in the Toronto region since the mid-90s. She says she chose to live in Canada because society here allows for the flourishing of artists engaged in the promotion of the enhancement of the condition of women.
Fairlane 50s Rock and Roll Band
Fairlane 50s Rock and Roll Band is a four piece group based out of North Bay, Ontario, playing sounds of the 50s, 60s, R&B, and Motown. Founded in October 2003, “FAIRLANE” is a recreation from its popular predecessor “REGGIE & THE HUBCAPS” which had been in motion since 1992. With lead singer Reggie Fairlane still at the helm, the new ensemble has kept the fire burning for the 50s and 60s enthusiasts. Each individual that comprises this act has a passion for performance and a consistent lobby to present quality material to an audience, as well as to employ an ongoing refinement to everything they choose to perform. This group’s intent is to recapture the era and bring back strong memories to when times we’re much simpler.
