Ranier Beach Community Festival Poster

This festival is an event specially designed to bring together ALL Rainier Beach and Rainier Valley neighbors as a mean to foster community connections.

This is a cultural and educational event for ALL AGES that aims to support cultural heritage in order to promote a healthy community. It is based on some ancient and contemporary African and Brazilan art forms, such as Capoeira Angola, African Dance, Samba, and Brazilian Percussion.

Participants will be introduced to the movements, music and instrumentation of these art forms, also as a way to develop their community bonds. A Community discussion will lead participants to focus on the communities social issues and to develop a critical perception of them while looking together for possible solutions. Two culminating events will be offered at the end of the day: The “Community Roda of Capoeira Angola” and a Community Party supported by the musicians and artists present.

The International Capoeira Angola Foundation (ICAF) founded in 1996, seeks to offer a place to all people interested in Capoeira Angola and its ancestors since the ancient days in Africa and Brazil. Mestre Jurandir (USA/West Coast), Mestre Cobra Mansa (USA/East Coast), and Mestre Valmir (Brazil), the ICAF leaders, continue to teach and transfer to their students Mestre Pastinha’s legacy. Their primary goals are to teach, research, and spread Capoeira Angola throughout the world as a movement of resistance and self-liberation. These objectives has made ICAF known as a community-based organization that advocates for a non-oppressive and equal society for all.
