Audio To Bump - 01/19/02

01/19/02 I've been re-discovering a lot of good songs thanks to the headphones over the toque action.. Turned up nicely, zone with it and bop along.. Basics is the track that I was thinking of by Dilated.. It's got Defari on it but I don't know what album it's on.. Single? Or wrong title.. I wrote up the tele station reviews really quick but it's not up because the way I did it was really half assed.. I really don't feel like fixing it at the moment though.. Boooo-eee! 01/10/02 Back in the P-Bo.. Damn it.. Well during the break I thought up some ish I was going to do for this page.. I was out of commission for a week because I got my wisdom teeth out, so I watched a lot of TV.. They had a bunch of new channels on preview, so I got to watch a lot of them.. I was thinking of doing an assessment of all the music stations that were on there: MuchMusic, MuchVibe, Edge TV, BET, BPM TV and MTV Canada.. Of course, now that I'm back, I'm not as motivated to do it.. I had other ideas but I forgot them.. There's a song that a friend of mine downloaded thinking it was Nas' track 'Rewind', but it was labelled wrong because when he got me to listen to it I deduced that it was Dilated Peoples, not Nas.. Elementary, bishes.. But I don't know what Dilated song it is, which is unfortunate, because it was a bumpin song.. 12/13/01 Sixth annual Mixtape Award winners:
Jadakiss? Ooook.. Best "Personality" on a Mixtape.. haha.. Nice category.. Who buys a mixtape to listen to the DJ and learn about his personality? I'm glad Toca got respect out there for the Mixtape Duo.. Touch is a wicked DJ.. He doesn't do random shoutouts to ruin the song.. If he speaks, he's on the track rhyming.. Take note, mixtape fockers.. Apparently the Billboard Music Awards went down not long ago.. If you didn't see it either, here's what you missed: The categories of R'n'B and Hip Hop were paired up(yeaaaaaah.....), and R Kelly won every single award that he could have possibly won.. The only awards he didn't win were awards given to the ladies.. In the "rap" category, the "rap" artist of the year wassss.. Waaaait for it.. Waaaaaait for it!! Lil' Romeo!!! And if you guessed that the rap single of the year went to Lil' Bow Wow, then you're RIGHT! And if you guessed that this awards show was complete shit, you're RIGHT! I don't think we missed anything.. I heard Jigga's new diss track, "Super Ugly".. He flows over the beats of Nas' Got Yourself a Gun and Dre's Bad Intentions.. It's pretty bumpin.. The shat parts of it was the unnecessarily retarded laughter when the beat changes to Dre's track, and the fact that it was edited for THE ANGIE MARTINEZ SHOW ON HOT 97!! (which they like to reiterate during the song).. Dre's song is wicked, and it's a nice beat for the Jigga Man to flow over.. I must say I didn't enjoy Nas' Got Yourself a Gun track, but I was boppin to the Jigga version.. Maybe I should listen to the Nas track again? Megahertz created the beat.. It's growing on me I think.. So P-Diddy is opening for Britney Spears.. ..he best be getting some tap tappy from that.. Seriously.. Britney Spears and P-Diddy? Right then.. But check dem tats: ![]() De La Soul hasn't been receiving much support for the new album, Art Official Intelligence: Bionix.. Only 20,000 disc(ettes!) have been sold, which means it debuts on the Billboard 200 albums chart at #136.. AOI - Mosaic Thump debuted at #9 when it was released, when it sold more than 81,000 copies upon its release in August 2000.. I heard the new De La album, and I must say it lacks the big single that Mosaic Thump had (Oooh featuring Redman!!!).. It was okay I guess.. Peer Pressure (feat. B-Real) is a funny/good track, and the Pawn Star track has the sound of some female getting poked.. "..And you'll never be my wiiife.. ..Trick.." That made me laugh.. It's funny because of the way the dude says it.. ![]() I want to see this movie.. I think it'll be SUPA UG-LAY.. hehahaehaho
12/07/01 - I don't know why people put so much emphasis on lyrical skill for a hip hop emcee.. I'm not saying lyrics aren't important, but they don't always have to be prophetic and intelligent.. Sure, it's cool, but I base a lot of my opinions on the rapper's flow.. If they flow on the track lyrically and flow well on the beat, that's all I need to nod my head to a track.. And that's what music is to me.. It doesn't always have to carry a message.. Some of my favourite shiz is party rap.. Beatnuts, Tha Liks, Redman, Method Man.. I mean, if it was all about lyrics, then Ludacris would have never blown up with a song like "Southern Hospitality".. Anyone who says he ripped it lyrically on that track has got to be kidding.. He changed one word on the next line to make it rhyme.. Even my whitebread ass can do that.. It's all in the delivery.. Who's the homeslice who said it's not what you say but how you say it? Northrop Frye? Uhh? I learned it in OAC English I think.. Give it up for school.. Anytits, what I'm saying is there's not ONLY one quality that makes a song bump.. Some are particularly good for flow (Snoop), some are good for beats (Uhm.. Gangstarr), some are good for lyrics (Pharoahe).. It's totally unnecessary to make a top list of emcee's be "old school innovators" or "underground" and not any "commercial" rap.. Honestly, most of the shit I listen to is the new hip hop, but that doesn't mean I don't listen/respect the old school and underground scenes.. It's all tits.. And the hassle against bling rap is stupid too.. If guys like Jay-Z want to rap about the ching ching, that's cool.. If he sounds cool, I'll listen.. If not, I won't.. I mean, I liked N2Gether Now, the Meth/Fred Durst track.. I don't know why Durst gets such hassle as an emcee.. Yeah, he's not the greatest, but he doesn't do that badly.. Listen to the song he does with Kurupt called Lay It On Back.. It's decent.. These 2 song bop, so they're good songs.. End of argument.. I like a lot of different shit, but most of the time, if it makes you bizzounce, listen up.. In other news, there are a lot of new cd's coming out.. Cypress' new joint, Stoned Raiders, is on par with Skull and Bones (I heard it way before it came out *thumbs up*).. De La has got one called Aoi Bionix coming.. Outkast's new shit is ready.. There's new Wu, but the tracks I've heard are not impressing me.. I was surprised when I found out they were bumping another disc out already.. Also coming out is Infamy from Mobb Deep, the How High Soundtrack which has a few new Red/Meth tracks (which bump by the way.. but I liked Blackout! and a lot of people didn't, sooo...), New Busta (I've heard a few tracks, sounds like some of his best shiz for the past while).. Ghostface came out with his new disc not long ago, and Raekwon has one coming out early in the new year.. I haven't heard much from the Ghostface album but what I heard I didn't put on rotation.. Check it out though, see what you think..
