Stephen Harper and Peter Van Loan pour coffee to support camps for kids

ALCONA, ON – Today York-Simcoe Conservative candidate Peter Van Loan joined with Stephen Harper to serve coffee and donuts at the Tim Horton’s on Innisfil Beach Road in Alcona. Dozens of people packed the restaurant while Stephen and Peter filled cups of coffee and handed out donuts to the people of York-Simcoe. “This was an excellent way to draw people to Tim Horton’s to support the Camps for Kids, and at the same time meet Stephen,” said Van Loan. “There was a mood of optimism and excitement.” “The fact that Stephen Harper chose to come to York-Simcoe demonstrates that he cares about this riding and that it is important to the Conservative Party. The strength of the Conservative message of hope and opportunity is very appealing to the young couples who are building their lives and families in communities like Innisfil.” Although there were only hours of notice before Mr. Harper’s visit, there was an enthusiastic crowd to welcome him. Among those present were Innisfil Mayor Brian Jackson, Councillors Gord Wauchope, Bill Van Berkel, and Roy Bridge, M.P.P. Joe Tascona, and East Gwillimbury Councillor Jack Hauseman. Stephen Harper told franchise owner Doug Weber that he was “delighted to have the opportunity to support Tim Horton’s Camps For Kids Day.” Many of the customers greeted the party leader by calling him ‘Prime Minister Harper’ – a comment on recent polls and their own optimism for the outcome of the election. Peter Van Loan observed to Mr. Harper the appropriateness of the location, since “much of the political debate in this country already takes place in Tim Horton’s among ordinary Canadians drinking coffee.”
