THE ORDER OF THINGS AT THE WEYR!!!!

THE CLUTCH!!

This is where it all starts!(after the Bronze or Brown dragon catches the Queen during the mating flight that is)They mate in the air, so the higher they are in flight at the time, the longer they mate, and the result is a bigger egg clutch.. Most of the eggs are green,blue,brown or bronze, but on some occasions they are lucky and a gold (sometimes though rarely)or two in the clutch...The eggs are kept in warm sand and guarded very closely by "mama" and no one is allowed near the eggs until the time of the "hatching"..... At this time people are selected to be eligible to be "impressed" by the baby dragons when they finally come out of their eggs! This is the time of great excitement for all as if a dragon impresses you, that means that you are paired for life and your whole life changes....Dragons and their riders are very important to the continued future of Pern due to the fact that without them, Pern would be defensless against "Threadfall".... "Thread" is a living organism that falls on Pern from the Redstar on occasion, and eats everything living around,the only thing that is safe are made out of rock or other non living things. That is the reason that most people on Pern live in caves, dormant volcanos, and other sheltered areas.

THE HATCHING AND IMPRESSING STAGE!!!!!

At the time of hatching, the lil dragons come out of their shells and pick their own human!(this is what is called impressing) The humans have no choice in the matter... The dragons are born telepathic, but only communicate with their own human rider and other dragons...It is very rare to have a dragon talk to another human other than its own rider...The dragon and the rider are together for life and if something happens to the rider, the dragon goes ~in between~ and doesn't come back... This also happens if the dragons mate should happen to die.... The dragonless rider in this case never rides again usually as he doesnt go through another impression.... More on this later!

THE ORDER AND RANKS OF THE DRAGONS!!!!

THE GOLD DRAGON! aka QUEEN DRAGON

The gold dragon is always a female, always impressed by a female and the ONLY dragon that can produce an egg clutch! She is the hightest ranking dragon, and she mates with the dragon (bronze or brown usually) that can catch her in flight!! The higher they fly, the longer they can mate and the more eggs are produced! Queens are rare..and the largest of all the dragons!

THE BRONZE DRAGON

The Bronze is the largest male dragon, the strongest (usually) and most likely the only one that can catch the Gold to mate... When the dragons mate, the riders are then linked to eachother also, and become the weyr leaders...Only impresses with a male!!

THE BROWN DRAGON

The Brown is the next largest male dragon.. He can mate with the queen if he can catch her and outrun the bronze during the mating flight....He always impresses a male...

BLUE DRAGON

The Blue dragon is a smaller, mid sized male,impressed by feminine males,and never gets close to the Queen,if the dragon feels the need, he mates with the Green dragon, but leaves the Greens rider to the browns or bronze riders.......

THE GREEN DRAGON

The Green dragon is the only other female of the Pern dragons, and the smallest..... She is ridden by a male, or a female and can only fight thread,no egg clutchs, shes always barren, but she flirts alot, and mates with any dragon she wants.... lol!

*****NOTE There are no other color dragons on Pern!!!!!!! Ruth was the ONLY exception and she was an albino or white dragon, who surprised everyone!!!!! lol!!!!

FIRELIZARDS AKA DRAGONETTES

Without the lil guys there would not be any Pern as we know it!! They were used to generically engineer the larger dragons you see above them here... Unlike the dragons, the Firelizards are not telepathic and cannot communicate with humans as the larger Dragons do....They are useful in their own way, they can carry messages to the different weyrs,Harper Halls and holds,also warn their masters in times of trouble by chirping and generally making pests of themselves! lol!!The Firelizards do not spew fire or fight thread but they can go ~in between~....
