Good Movies!!!!!

Uhh... movies and stuff? OK... I've listed some good movies and haven't given you an explanation. The Shining, Terms of Endearment, and One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest all involve my personal favourite actor, Jack Nicholson, an amazingly crazy human being.. OOPS As Good As it Gets was forgotten on that list above, but is still an amazing movie with an amazing man in it. He knows how to make you shiver and laugh just because he's a nut. (heeeeeeeeere's johnny!!!!!) Higher Learning is and always will be a personal favourite of mine, it is a wonderful movie dealing with issues such as sexuality, racism, sexism, rape, love, humour, life, etc., etc., etc. This movie makes you both angry and sad at the same time, there is a wide range of people and emotions shown and many many issues that several of us have had to face at least once in our life. Anyone can relate to it, or at least feel the people's pain that they go through. A definite 2 thumbs up 5-star movie. Rent it today!!!!

Dead Man Walking is a definite tear-jerker, and it does get kind of slow in one or two parts, but in the end, if you pay attention, you learn to either love or hate the main character, and either sob or cheer at the end. Depends whether you're left wing or right wing. A definite movie to watch on a boring friday night in. Eye for an Eye is another movie of the same, a tearjerker and one that also deals with issues. (notice how dumb and dumber is not on my list of movies?) watch this one for sure... I'd write more but I'm running out of caffeine.

Follow that bird - Big Bird and the rest of the Sesame Street Crew. What else can I say??? (hi-ho, Mikie!)

The Crow and Braveheart are both excellent movies with a couple similarities... face painting a plus, long hair... hehee just kidding. Both are stories dealing with revenge and rage against those who had to do with the killing of a loved one, in Braveheart it was his beautiful secretive wife, and in the Crow it was an innocent victim of city crime. Both show the revenge and the sacrifices taken to make sure that the crimes committed get paid back for, both successful, and both touching and heartbraking stories.

The Doors....Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison. 'Nuff said.

Now for some books. LOL At the moment I can only think of 2 that are really really worth reading. Maybe 3... well ok you got me four. OK.. the first one that I HIGHLY recommend is King Rat by James Clavell. He wrote the Asia series... includes Tai Pan and Shogun in the series... King Rat is a story of triumph and victory, intensity, anger, hatred, and friendship. An excellent read... I HATE reading, I despise it, actually, but I finished this book in less than a week.. read it 3 or 4 times and could easily read it again. Another good read is A Prayer For Owen Meany, or The World According to Garp, both by John Irving, someone who is poetic and interesting, and a wonderful storyteller. Owen Meany is about two boys, good friends, growing up in a small town, dealing with spiritual and religious and social moralities, taking place somewhere in the states, building up to a climax that makes the ENTIRE book make sense, but I can't give it away, or that wouldn't be fun. GARP, is a wonderful wonderful novel based on the life of T.S. Garp, his mother, Jenny Fields, and his family, their coming of age and their trials as authors, Garp's life as an author and son of Jenny (a famous feminist) and his life as a husband and father to two boys. Definitely a book on my list that I could read again. And again.

The only other book that I can think of RIGHT now is .... The Silence of the Lambs.... much better than the movie... I found the movie rather disappointing to be honest with you (and disturbing) but still a good story. Pick it up for somethin to do.

Now, in the last year or two I've really started getting into Kurt Vonnegut - absolutely incredible! I started off with Slaughterhouse Five but I always ended up putting it down cause I never have patience or time for whole books. (It's not very long). But anyhow, I bought God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian, and I was amazed. It's about how he "half-kills" himself with Kevorkian's help and interviews dead people. Very creative. The next one I bought was Welcome to the Monkey House, a collection of short stories. Absolutely incredible and perfect for a short attention span. The best stories are "More Stately Mansions", "Welcome to the Monkey House", "EPICAC", "Harrison Bergeron", "Next Door", and my favourite, a story that actually makes me laugh out loud, almost hysterically, is "The Euhpio Question". Read it!
Right now, I'm reading Bagombo Snuff Box, another short story collection, all the stuff that didn't make it to the first one. It's good so far, but lol, I'm only on the second story. LOL. But I definitely recommend Vonnegut to anyone. He can make the most profound statements in his shit, I'm just . . . well, completely shocked that a writer like this took so damned long to get onto my personal bookshelf. Highly recommended. My next one is Cat's Cradle or Breakfast of Champions. Definitely an extremely talented writer.
