1982 Buick Skyhawk 4 Cylinder Mini Car
I purchased this car over two years ago. I figured that it really wasn't big (or strong) enough to compete with the Ford Tempos, Mercury Topazs, or the Volvo sedans. Boy was I wrong! I finally decided to prepare this car for the 1999 Tweed demo derby. I always wanted to run some sort of flag on my car as I grew tired of plain looking derby cars! So in my heat, I tried to take out a Volvo wagon's front tire and hit his bumper instead, shredding the right front tire (the drive wheel on a front wheel drive car). So I got stuck in the mud and got counted out. I got a new tire put on it for the Hard Luck heat. The car ran great and never stalled once. I won the Hard Luck, and then won the ENTIRE derby! My first EVER win! Won $400.00 for it too! The car had a few hits left in it, so I let my friend Craig Williams race it in the 1999 Belleville derby. It was his first race. I told him to take it easy on the car for his heat (so he might make it to the feature), but he went out full throttle anyway. He hit someone with the back end so hard that it blew the rear brake lines (the only ones left that worked). He got tapped in the rear quarter panel and got spun into a driver's door since he couldn't stop. But he did manage to finish the car off before getting the black flag. What an excellent car. I am looking to buy more of these style of cars for next year!
