Global peace is an idea whose time has come

City of Flagstaff

Office of the Mayor

PROCLAMATION

Whereas, the Global Peace Walk seeks to unite the world in peace, and

Whereas, the history of our world is awash with incidents of peoples and nations using violence as a method to resolve disputes; and

Whereas, alternative methods for settling world differences should be explored to resolve differences peaceably without resorting to violence; and

Whereas, senseless loss of life, liberty and prosperity can be diminished through a vision of global peace; and

Whereas, the Global Peace Walk is comprised of people from many different races and creeds from all over the world gathering together to spread the message of "Global Peace Now!" to develop consciousness and promote knowledge; and

Whereas, the Global Peace Walk coincides with the 50th anniversary of the United Nations and the United Nations' 50th Anniversary Global Peace Walk began in New York City on January 15, 1995, with a Peace Pole Ceremony and Vigil in Flagstaff to be held on May 29; and

Whereas, the Flagstaff community affirms our conviction that global peace is an idea whose time has come;

Now, Therefore, I, Christopher J. Bavasi, Mayor of the City of Flagstaff, do hereby proclaim Monday, May 29, 1995, as

Global Peace Walk Day

in Flagstaff.
