May 2000
Update May 20, 2000…Hello and Happy Spring! Matthew is enjoying his first
real spring and loves to go outside and play in the grass. Although he isn’t
walking on his own yet, he is close. He can crawl like a champion and his
Daddy is amazed at how fast he can go! Matt thinks it is fun to crawl
backwards and see where he ends up. He thinks he can also climb anything he
wants to, and always gives it a good try. The stairs are fun, but no
challenge, so he is looking for bigger and better things. Next thing we know,
it will the big maple tree in the back yard. Matt’s speech is coming along.
We think his first word is ‘Kitty” in reference to our cat Goober. Matt
loves his kitty-cat! He also likes to play peek a boo, so-big, tag/chase with
Daddy, and give lots of hugs and kisses. Mommy thinks it is funny when Matthew
moos like a cow whenever he sees a picture of one, or hears the word! Matt has
had a few changes in the last couple of months. He finally got some teeth.
Just the 2 lower ones, but it is a start! He also has gotten glasses for his
nearsightedness. At his last eye appointment, the Dr. felt it was time for
glasses. We picked them up today and he is doing well with them. Although he
won’t keep them on all the time yet, he doesn’t seem to mind wearing them
for short periods of time. His Aunt Heather and Aunt Joan think he looks very
scholarly, and call him ‘Dex”. Matt’s Aunt Jill thinks they make him
look older. Daddy thinks he looks like a yuppie, and his Grandma and Mommy
think he just looks adorable. Matt is eating everything in sight, now that he
has gotten into the big-boy food and no more babyfood. He especially seems to
like anything that anyone else is eating. We think his favorites are still mac
and cheese and pizza, with yogurt a close second. He is getting good at
drinking from a cup and better at feeding himself. Matthew and Daddy have
joined a swim group and go swimming every Friday morning. At first, Matt
seemed in awe of the “giant bathtub”. But now, he and Daddy swim and play
games and sing songs and have lots of fun! Matt is practicing his doggy paddle
and breaststroke for when he swims in Mamaw’s pool this summer. We hope you
like his new pictures. Feel free to sign his guest book! Have a great Spring!!
