Cyrus is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lovilia, Monroe County, Iowa. The care taker (grave digger) for Woodlawn Cemetery mentioned there were 5 burials (in his book) of DAY surnames in a straight line with Cyrus's tombstone. There were (sadly) no other Given Names listed - just the surname of DAY. Believe Harriet (his wife and my 3rd great Grandmother) to be one of them (due to the MOTHER stone resting to the left of Cyrus's & stating 1813-1886).
Mary Ellen Day Morford may be another (Cyrus & Harriet's youngest daughter). Her husband remarried shortly after their marriage - leaving me to believe Mary Ellen died from possibly child birth.
The care taker was generous with his assistance - he held
the tombstone (which is broken in half) together for me so I could obtain
photos and also went back to his home to review his book. KODOS! to him
Sadly Harriet's stone has been cemented in, preventing transcription of what is obviously written below. Cyrus's stone is also in great need of repair. April 2001
Stephen Steward completed a Census of Woodlawn Cemetery -
Lovilia, Iowa in June of 1999. This Census has a Charles Day listed as
#0507 - d. Apr 9, 1880 at 1y 9m 1d - son of A & C Day. He is resting in the
plot directly beside & to the right of Cyrus. Could this be Alexander's son
Charlie? and one of the five people buried in a row beside Cyrus? Alexander is
one of Cyrus and Harriet's sons. If this is Alexander's son, we would now have
4 people (Cyrus, Harriet, Mary & Charles). The fifth person could be an
infant of Mary Ellen Day Morford as she might have died in child birth. Will we
ever really know?
Harriet’s tombstone rests to the left beside Cyrus’s in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lovilia, Monroe County, Iowa. As stated above Harriet's stone has been cemented in, preventing transcription of what is obviously written below. The dates on the stone support the assumption that this IS Harriet’s burial site.
