Being Part of the "Silent Epidemic"As Americans those of us living with disabilities are entitled to opportunities. Okay we may not be able to work the same long hard hours every week like those who live without disabilities, but just because we can work some hours and are able to contribute some work, should that mean tin the end we need to be penalized and be stripped of receiving help because of the hardships we must endure as a result of our disability?! Okay let's go a step further into this. Imagine living with a disability that despite the fact it effects millions of people, it is known as the "silent epidemic". Once you sustain a Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI, as it is commonly referred to, your life will do a complete 180 or close to a 360 turn around. Life as you know it, will be no more and you have entered a whole new world. People don't truly understand just how scary this is. Friends may disappear just because they don't understand or can't get passed at how much you may have changed. You risk having teachers who won't care and refuse to help you through school. Then fearing if you work you'll be kicked off of SSDI and will no longer receive the help you need, so you don't work. These are just some of the many things you will face once you sustain a TBI. If you are reading this and don't live with a disability, be grateful for what you have and how good you have it. |
When you come to TBI Raiders Volunteer
Service and go to any of the pages that has issues or politics on it, you
will never have to worry about reading information that is one sided.
There will be information on how both sides feel about a concern. Ex:
If there was an article on two candidates running for an office, it would
have how the both feel or believe about that issue.
Happy Birthday to everyone who will celebrating their birthdays in March and April!!! |
