          Name: Eric
     Nickname: Jeri-atric (haha)

GET TO KNOW ME ON A PERSONAL NOTE

My name is Eric. I was born in Austin, Tx. where I lived for two years. While still a child I moved quite a bit like most children, until we finally settled in Pittsburgh, Pa.

There I attended a Presbyterian church with my mother. In my teens, I went to the local Young Life (a youth ministry program for lack of better words) where I met Jesus. Notice I said “met”. I really didn't accept Jesus until later in my life.
My time in school was filled with various choirs especially during my  junior and senior years. During my senior year I did something that was great I went to London for a competition.
After graduating from high school, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. At my first permanent duty station (Tyndall AFB, Fl.) I got involved in the base chapel.  I sang in the choir, worked with the PYOC (Protestant Youth Of the Chapel), and worked in the bus ministry.  I even tried to cross train into a chapel position but was turned down, some days you just don't know what God has in store for you. Just when things, I thought, couldn't get worse I became extremely discouraged and withdrew from the church when  a deep rooted, old fashioned Southern Baptist chaplain became head of the base chapel and started cutting programs. One of them just happened to be the PYOC.
I left Fla., and went to Panama for a 3 year tour. After that, I went to Andrews AFB, Md., where I served the rest of my career in the military. I retired from the Air Force in 1993 and moved to Tulsa, Ok. where I still live.

In 1988, I met Mary, the lady that became my wife in 1990.  She was a devoted christian and we went  to church together (yes it was a Baptist Church). It was there that I accepted Christ and was baptized in March 1990. Unfortunately, I was divorced in 2000 but Mary and I still to this day remain friends. Through this I found  my love for Christ never wavered.  I learned that most people, when trouble strikes (as in my earlier days) run away from  church- - but now I find myself running to the church.

I started singing with a barbershop group and traveled with them to New Orleans and Calgary to compete in international competitions. I also joined a quartet.  After searching for a church home, He placed me at Brookside Baptist Church, where I sing in the choir and other ensembles.

One Saturday night  Rocky and Mary were practicing at her house, they were to sing at my church the next day. I dropped in to say hello. While there I sang a couple of songs for fun with them, little did we know it was the start of something bigger than just that night.  The next day we were a group just didn't know God had made us one yet. God however has his own timing so we had to admit it was then that "A Higher Calling" was formed.  Needless to say I am so thankful that Jesus opened this door for me for I love gospel music and now I can use the gift He gave me to praise Him.
