GSM: +359 889 282 541 e-mail:erzhi.marka@gmail.com Do you see this formless rugged chunk of stone? This is me. I spent eons in slumber, locked in the freezing darkness of the stone and dreamt of You, of Your light, of the warmth of Your Love. Now You decided to liberate me and to draw me out. Hurry up, Oh please, hurry up! I can't wait for You to carve out my eyes, so that I can see You. I can't wait for You to carve out my ears, so that I can hearken to Your voice. I can't wait for You to carve out my lips, so that I can whisper Your Name. I crave so badly to get a heart from You, so that I can love You. Don't delay, bring my hands out of the stone, so that I can embrace You. Please, hurry, remove the clutter from my legs, so that I can walk with You. Do you see this perfect figure? This is me - Your immaculate creation. rj |
ERZHI,Elisaveta Markovksa is born in 1963 in Sofia, Bulgaria of a Hungarian mother and a Bulgarian father. After receiving her BA in Hungarian Language and Literature in 1988 from the University of Sofia, she studied the craft of weaving with one of the master weavers in the Bulgarian Folk Artisans’ Guild. In addition to the ancient old techniques used by women for centuries, in the course of the years, Erzhi kept inventing, experimenting and discovering some of her own. She works with natural and recycled materials in crafting a broad array of creations with a variety of applications. Her works are unique and do not fall under existing national traditions or trends. In the first phase of her artistic development (1990-1998) she used to craft primarily decorative items for the interior and she has experimented with clothing and accessories. Her creations stand out with their practical design and easy maintenance. In April 2004, after switching into a more abstract mode, she composed her first independent fiber art exhibit “The Spirit in rags” and “Snails & butterflies”: Sofia, Institute for Hungarian Culture. In her second independent exhibit July 2005, Architects’ Club in Varna her renewed repertoire beckons the viewer along on a “Motionless journey” by the wooden shuttle. She conveys profound insights through simple and precise techniques resembling a child’s drawing. Her aim is to represent the baby- stage of the spiritual, mystical search with the help of symbols which represent the growth and transformation of the human spirit. |
