Abiotic Factors- Non living components of an ecosystem, (such as sun light, temperature, wind, and rainfall), that will unfluence the living (biotic) components of an ecosystem Adaptation- The proccess where an organism modifies or adjust to its conditions of its enviorment. Biome- A Major ecosystem (ecological community). Characterized by its plants and animals, climate, and soil conditions in a specific georphic setting. (Defferent types of biomes are Land " ", ocean " ", freshwater" ") Climax Community- When the changes in a community remain the same for many year it is said to be at a climax (Mature) It tends to remain the same until a disturbance (such as fire, hurricane, epidemic, flood, change in climax ect.) When this occurs it causes a renewal cycle of seconday succession Crown Fire- A fire that burns the crown of trees/shrubs. Usaly ignited by surface fires Pioneer Species- The first species that is established during primary succession. Seed Bank- Population of viavle dormant seeds that accumulates in and on soil.. Serotiny- A retention by a plant of seeds in a hard structures so the seeds do not dispers. until after some enivormental conditon(Fire!) Succession- The process by wich elogical communities are build and rebuilt Primary Succession- Occurs when organisms become established on land hat is completely deviod of soil and vegetation. Primary succession always invloves the formation of soil. Secondary succession- Occurs when an existing ecological community, where soil is already in place, is disturbed by some condition (such as fire, hurricane, epidemic, flood, change in climax ect.) This can take place ten times faster than primary succesion
