Originally, the true English Bulldogs, the American Bulldogs were used in England as guard dogs, hunting dogs, and herding dogs. Because of their great strength they became popular in the cruel sport of bull baiting. When the sport was outlawed they were replaced by the dogs we now know today as the English Bulldog. The American Bulldogs were preserved and brought over by the immigrants who brought them to work on their farms. The breed almost disappeared until saved by such breeders as John D. Johnson. There are a couple reasons as to why I breed dogs:
