Section 4. Stages of the Game

These are the stages of the game:

A. Starting Setup
B. Begin Stage
C. Play Stage
D. Attack Stage
E. Travel Stage
F. Draw Stage
G. End Stage

A. Starting Setup

This is the start of the game. Shuffle your Draw Deck and give the opponent the chance to cut the deck. They will do the same. Next, draw 8 cards to form your Starting Hand. To determine who goes first you may do the following:

1. Flip a Coin
2. Roll a die (your Triforce Counter Die is perfect for this)
3. Rock, Scissors, Paper
4. Have an Archery Contest (okay okay this might be going a little too far)
It is time to begin the game.

B. Begin Stage

The Person who won the above contests is the first player. For the First
turn, you place 6 bead counters into the Rupee Wallet. On each subsequent turn, you now place 2 bead counters into the Rupee Wallet. Also, each turn you play one BattleSite to the table from your Battlesite Deck.
You may play any Battlesite you so choose.

C. Play Stage

In the Play Stage, you use up Rupees (bead tokens) to pay for the cost to play Characters and Items. Techniques are also played during the Play Stage, however, they have no Rupee Cost. Events can be played during any turn as stated above, so they also may play during this Stage. The longer-lasting Events are usually the Events played during the Play Stage.

D. Attack Stage

This is where the fun begins. At the start of the Attack Stage, you choose a Battlesite to start an Attack. An Attack consists of ONE of your Characters against ONE of your opponent’s Characters. You can only start one Attack per Battlesite per turn.

Here’s how the Attack works:

1. Compare your Character’s Might with your Opponent’s Might.
2. Add any modifiers to the Character’s total Might.
3. If your Character is bearing an Item, reveal top card of Draw Deck for the Battle Number, adding it to the total (then placing the revealed card underneath your Draw Deck). Revealed cards in Attacks go to the bottom of the Draw Deck after being revealed.
(Items such as Arrows reveal cards in Attacks, so the revealed cards also go to the bottom of the Draw Deck.)
4. Highest total Might wins the Attack.
5. Loser of the Attack takes one Damage to their Character and discards the top card of their deck.
6. Winner gains Triforce Points equal to the Triforce Number stated on the Battlesite.
7. If a losing Character is discarded after an Attack, the winning player scores an extra Triforce Point.

Here is an example of an Attack in LoZ:TCG:
Joe has declared an Attack against Bob at Hyrule Castle, Hyrule Overworld with his LinkII, Hyrule Legend against Dungeon Keeper, Hyrule Castle Guard. Joe’s LinkII is bearing the Master Sword, while Bob’s Dungeon Keeper is bearing nothing. Both players calculate their Character’s total Might using any effects they wish to boost their total Might. Joe Adds 2 to LinkII’s 5 Might, while noticing Bob’s Dungeon Keeper is a Hyrule Castle Guard. Joe adds 1 more to LinkII’s total Might using the game text on his Theme Card (Rescue The Princess). Bob plays an Event from hand to boost Dungeon Keeper’s 4 Might up to 7. Next, Joe reveals the top card of his Draw Deck because LinkII is bearing the Master Sword (an Item). Bob does not because Dungeon Keeper is NOT bearing an Item. Joe revealed a card with a Battle Number of 4. Joe places the revealed card under his Draw Deck. Joe’s total Might to Bob’s total Might is 12-7. Joe adds 2 to his total Triforce Points while Bob adds a Damage Counter to his Dungeon Keeper. Dungeon Keeper now has an equal amount of damage counters on him as his printed Health. Bob discards Dungeon Keeper and the top card of his Draw Deck, while Joe scores an extra Triforce Point.

E. Travel Stage

During the Travel Stage, you now have the option of moving your Characters around to the various Battlesites. A Character’s default Speed is 1. You can move as many Characters as you want during the Travel Stage; however, each Character may only move to its limit in Speed meaning a Character with Speed=2 can move up to 2 Battlesites to its left or right, while a Character with Speed=1 can only move up to 1 Battlesite to the left or right.

F. Draw Stage

During the Draw Stage, you draw one card from the top of your Draw Deck. This is a very Simple Stage.

G. End Stage

You are now done with your turn, and play shifts to your opponent, thus restarting the Stages.
