ALL ABOUT
ME:
I was born September
20, 1964 and was raised in Tulsa, OK. I am the youngest of three children;
I have two older brothers and an awesome Mom and Dad. Like I said, I lived
in Tulsa but I went to Sapulpa high school and graduated in 1982. I worked
in a fast food restaurant after high school. I was determined not to go
to college because I had decided that 12 years of school was enough for
me to get by in this world…boy was I wrong. In 86’ I finally started taking
non-credit community classes of American Sign Language. They had 3 different
classes and I took all of them and fell in love with the language and culture.
I also made many Deaf friends. I wanted to keep learning the language so
I asked an Interpreter friend of mine and she told me to go to Tulsa Jr.
College. So I did. I have never regretted it because I learned so much
more about the language and made even more friends. I also found a passion
deep inside me for signing music, especially Christian music. I soon
learned that God had given me a gift for signing music so that whether
or not a person is Deaf, they feel and see what is going on while I am
signing. I am very thankful for that because of what it also does inside
me. I eventually graduated with an Associates degree in Interpreting for
the Deaf. I worked a few assignments but then started having health problems
and I had to stop. I worked a few odd jobs over the next several years
like, teaching, gift stores, bookstores, and maintenance. I finally got
hired on at Honeywell in their Aerospace division and I am still currently
working there. I have been there for over 5 years now. I am now involved
with my quartet and I love it. I have no idea how far God intends on taking
us as a group but I am ready to go as long as He is leading it. If someone
had told me that I would be singing in a Gospel group I would have told
him or her that they were crazy but here I am. I was very nervous when
I became a part of the group because singing in front of people is way
out of my “comfort zone.” Signing music is where my “comfort zone” is but
I have learned that God likes to move us out of our “comfort zones” and
to another level of service for Him. He does have a way of “rocking our
boats” but I know that He is my “anchor” so I have no need to worry. He
will take care of me. He will take care of you to if you only ask Him too.
He gives the ONLY peace that passes all of our understanding.
My
Testimony
I grew up in Tulsa, OK and went to a Southern Baptist church until I was
about 13. Shortly after my Grandmother/Sunday schoolteacher died I eventually
quit going to church. I spent many years after that doing things I knew
I shouldn't be doing until at the age of 18 a very dear school friend asked
me to go to church with him. I was reluctant, but I went. It was the first
time I ever went to a Pentecostal church and at first I thought everybody
there was crazy but, the more time passed the more I kept feeling some
kind of drawing at me to go back. I went back and my life has forever been
changed. God got hold of me in a way that I had never felt before and I
could no longer deny him…”so I thought.” I ran away from the church about
6 years later and spent many years ignoring Him…”so I thought.” My path
again crossed with another friend of the past that I used to work and party
with and it came as a shock to me to find out that she was now a Christian.
She eventually got me going back to another Southern Baptist church and
I could no longer ignore God and what He wanted to do in my life. I became
a member of Brookside Baptist Church in June of 2000 and I have never regretted
it. He has changed so many things in my life and I am so thankful for “pushy”
friends. God always knows what we need and what kind of people to put around
us. I am doing things now that I would never have dreamed in my wildest
dreams that I would ever do in my lifetime, and for that I am thankful,
because all of it is for Him.
